My best friend and longtime hunting partner had a Canadian moose hunt booked. I had worked up a load for his 06 with 180 Partitions. We went out to shoot it right before he left and the rear base screw had stripped out and he didn't have another rifle to take. I loaned him my new SS700 Mountain Rifle in 280 loaded with 150 Partitions. He got back in town last night and reported 2 complete pass throughs on a 275 yard shot, the bull traveled about 40 yards. The best part is I got a moose backstrap out of the deal and had some for supper last night. I could get really used to eating moose The bad part is he wants to buy the rifle

Congrats on your friends moose. Moose backstrap is pretty good vittles.
Chronographs, bore scopes and pattern boards have broke a lot of hearts.

He also said all 4 hunters in camp scored. The other moose that were shot with magnums weren't any deader than his

Long live the 280 Remington.
Did you actually have any doubts it would handle the job?

MagMarc: I have not killed a Moose with my 280 Remington calibered Rifle, yet, but I have killed Elk, three kinds of Deer, Black Bear, Antelope and some other game animals. The 280 is an EXCELLENT round for all manner of game. I have been impressed with the lethality of this round ever since I had my Rifle built back in 1986. Enjoy that Moose backstrap. MagMarc I think Moose is one of my favorite wild meats. We where killing moose with 30-30's back in the 40' & 50's before they got tough and you had to use magnums on them!! Good on your friend I bet he goes back again and that rifle will go with him. Cheers NC

Did you actually have any doubts it would handle the job? Not at all but if I had any idea it was going moose hunting I would have had 160 or 175 Partitions loaded. I knew the 150s would work fine.

Shooting from the back porch, my mother killed a cow moose with a 30-30 Model 94 while my father was off working. I am glad no one told her what a risk she was taking, being a stunt shooter and all

utah708 I was on a homestead in western Alberta, at the beginning our nearest neighbor was 5 miles away and the moose were closer. Deer that entered the back yard got an invitation to stay that they couldn't refuse. Cheers NC
