For what I'm looking to spend the options that get mentioned the most are the Bushnell DMR and the SWFA HD. Any input that would put one ahead of the other?

I think both are good options. You are also in Nightforce territory, keep them in mind. You can pick up a used NXS for just over a grand sometimes.

I've looked hard at some of the NXS's I've seen floating around but I'm leaning strongly toward an FFP reticle and that is a limiting factor.

Yeah, with higher magnification scopes I prefer FFP reticles also. From 10x-15x I'd never miss it. I regret passing up on a $950 Bushnell ERS when they were available.

With Black Friday next week, I'd wait and see what SWFA will offer this year. They generally run some very good sales on their popular models.

Cabelas currently has the Leupold Mark 4 4.5-14x50, TMR reticle with M1 turrets on sale for $650.
