Need to get an idea on the value of this shotgun. It has the fairly uncommon CYL barrel. I can get more detailed pictures if needed. Let me know what you think.
Very difficult to see detail in the photos. The photos make it look like it has been refinished. Would be good to see clearer photos and a photo of the choke marking.
1 The photos are worthless - what could you tell about the gun just looking at them
2 Are you buying it for it's collectible value - if so it's a very specializes area and without a lot of knowledge it's a crap shoot.
3, Collector's look for guns that are 100% original - no refinishing - all original parts.
4. Take a look at sites like GunBroker and GunsInternational - they usually have decent photos. Gun Broker is an auction whilw GunsInternational does liat a price. Take a look at the Model 42s being sold by the various Cabelas - the photos are usually pretty good. You'll see that prices can be all over the place for 42's that look identical.
Thanks for the replies. I know the gun is pretty rare because you hardly ever see one with CYL bore. I have owned it for over 40 years, but it may have been re blued at some point. I think it was manufactured in 1938, but I will have to verify. I may just list it on gun broker and
It's a bit hard to tell from the pictures but it looks to have a pre war forend and a post war stock. Guns were sold that way originally but they were sold post war. If it's a 1938 gun, then the stock has been replaced.

That is a good catch on the stock. I probably have the original somewhere, but it has been cut. It was my first gun and Dad and my uncle decided to cut it for me. Probably should just pass it on down.
Thanks, and a comment. Given that it was your first gun, that likely means a lot to someone. When it's gone, it's gone! Passing it down sounds like a great idea.
