I talked to Tom last night, with Jack listening in. I don't think Jack's feet have hit the ground yet. What a great story. Jack's such a cool kid, any Dad would be proud to have 'im as a son. They're back at it this morning. Tom really did his homework for this hunt. He's got lots of spots set up, so they can make a choice based on wind direction and other variables. He got pics of a couple good bucks on on his game cams, including a big 8 point he'd like to see walk in front of Jack's .280. I think there will be more good stories to come out of this hunt.

Dave-any luck for the 'buckers with the snow on the ground?

Way to go Jack!
I got the text and pic right after they found her, I was so pumped! Wish I coulda been there to see that smile! I still remember my first deer like it was yesterday.

I tagged out Friday morning on my best yet buck. Huge body took two trips just to get him out without the bones. Just a hair under 20" inside spread. I'll try to get a pic up today. Haven't figured how to post one from my phone yet.

congrats to all who have taken part in the 2016 deer season.

Taylor took a doe yesterday afternoon with her 243, real nice big doe. So it looks like it's just me and taylor for the camp chickenbuck crew (so far).

Muzzle loader season is coming soon!

Congrats everyone! Glad you got Jack on a deer right away. Its a blast. My Jeron 11 YR old got a nice Doe yesterday afternoon. our group ended up yesterday with 4 last night. I think its about a dozen all together. I get to save my tag for muzzleloader. Its a nice quiet time of year for us. No one else in our group hunts that season. time for one more deer then.

Wow! That one needs to go on the wall Ryan! Nicely done!

Good on young Jack, old man ND, and Miss Taylor for hanging some meat! Good year over there in the land of 10,000 lakes.

Our opener was kind of a bust. Fog and gun plenty of it. Couldn't see 30 yards. Found out I had a guy near me when his gun went off 65 yards away at 8:15. Buck down...it was coming my way too. Gotta love state land.

Even though my ears were ringing, that was the only shot I heard all morning. I pulled my stand and moved 6 miles away. Saw a nice size spike pushing a doe, but I was in the APR area, so no go. Didn't see another deer until the 4th day. A dandy little buck but he wouldn't give me a clean shot through the hardwoods at nearly dark. Too dang warm. Hunted in shirtsleeves. Would've have to raced to get it cut up in time - nearly 70*. We'll be back at her Thanksgiving weekend. No mercy.

Very nicely done Taylor, Jack and Ryan! Lots of deer being shot this year for the freezer by Chickenbuckers! Love it! As a group, I think we are prepared for the long winter months with lots of meat and stories!

Speaking of meat, if anyone has a really good venison recipe, please share! We do a lot of hamburger and backstraps but this year we tried flat iron steaks and they were pretty good. I have heard they are better than backstrap, but I didnt think they were that good! I bought a jar of Alpine Touch seasoning and boy, that is really good!

I did neck roast the other day.
1 bay leaf, filled half way up the meat with water and some pepper and minced onion. crockpot on low for 24 hours. crumbled apart, put a little bbq with it on a sandwich, was delicious and uber tender.

I was checking stuff out and realized that my cabin by Perham (Big Pine Lake) is in a zone where you can shoot two deer.

So, I will be muzzle loading at the lake place with a few neighbors trying to get another one here next weekend. And I won't have any freaking mosquitoes or flies bothering me!!!

I may have some land in the "metro zone" to hunt black powder. That could be fun. Might have to dust off the ol TC 50 cal and see what's up.
