Not if 3:3 proves to have the light round... then it takes one more move. If 3:3 proves to have a light round on one side then the two held back are not light and no need to test them. Take the 3 that were considered to be harboring the light round and place one on each side... If they are equal the light one is the one held back... if not then the light one is self evident. But, if those two are equal, you don't have actual scientific confirmation that the round held back is light, only the word of a third party. It would have to be weighed as well for proof.
Ratio measurement method leading to deduction....
Deduction is not scientific proof.

your buddy reloads 8 .308 Win bullets and gives it to you as a gift. he calls later to tell you know one of them is defective ( weighs less ) and you should remove it. you have an old style wighting balance . the idea is to use the minumum number of moves to find the defective one. for example you can put one on each side and find the defective one ( 7 moves ). can you do it for less than 7 tries ? ![[Linked Image]](http://www.perryscale.com/img/balance-scale-redone.png) P. Dave No , i didn't but from experience i can tell interviewer wants to hear multiple answers , he wants you to give an answer and make a correction because thats how programming works. my final answer was compare 3 and depending on outcome make the next move. i have more of these because i use to be interviewer. P.
