At approximately four-fifteen PM yesterday I became an orphan. My mother passed away at 81 years old. She had been loosing a long battle with her health, fighting diabetes, TIA’s (maybe numbering over a thousand) and ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease). Her throat stopped swallowing and she had not been able to talk or eat in over a year. She was not having fun any more and she told my sister she was ready to go and she just went. The sad part for her was her mind was as sharp as a tack but the body just quit.
We will scatter her ashes and Dad’s in the Smokey Mountains Park, their favorite vacation spot on March 1st, what would have been their 61st anniversary.
We are doing well and taking comfort in the fact she is no longer suffering. I am posting here because there Campfire members who knew her.

Truly sorry to hear of your loss, know that she has gone to a better place. It sounds like this was for the best, and she knew it. Your memories of her will help I am sure, she will always be in your heart.

Golly Scott, there sure has been a number of folks passing on this season.
Sound to me like your mom lived a full and good life, and raised a fine family, and died well loved. May we all do as well.
My condolences on your loss.

Knowing she's going to a better place helps, but it sure is tough loosing a loved one.

She may no longer be with you bodily but you can take comfort she will be with you in spirit for the rest of the days of your life. Cherish the time with her in life and carry her in your heart and take solace in the fact that she is no longer in pain.

I lost my Mom in '89 and my Dad this September while I held his hand. He led a wonderful life as I'm sure your mother did.
Sorry about your losses!

A lady once told me that one is never too old to grieve the loss of a parent. You have my condolences.

Scott, you are in my thoughts and prayers. I lost my Mom more than 5 years ago, and I still think of her almost every day. My Dad died three years before my Mom, so I know how you're feeling. It's a strange feeling to know that there's no more "Mom and Dad's place" to go home to. I remember after my Mom's death, my sister saying to me, "Well, there's just us now."
Prayers sent for comfort and healing.
Penny

Very sorry for your loss.

Thank you one and all. This place is truly like a family!
My boss told me that getting the time off would be easy. She will put another driver in my heavy haul truck to run my route and get a loaner over-the-road truck and route us to Asheville, NC for the service in March. So, instead of spending savings for two plane tickets we will be getting paid for the trip and my wife will get to see parts of the country she has never seen. She is getting three weeks off work from her job and we will make a paid vacation out of the trip.
All in all life is still good.
