I was loading up some Hornady 325 grain FTX for my 45.70 and saw a partial box of Hornady 250 grain FTX for the .45 Colt and thought what the hell. Since they mike out at .452 instead of .458 I did not expect much in the way of accuracy. A stiff charge of IMR4895 and a CCI LR Bench primer and it was off to the range. First shot from cold barrel was a tad high but the other 7 settled in nicely. Speed was a tad over 2400 fps. Just about right for crows.
I know the big bore purist will find this offensive and admit that I was a bit apprehensive until I saw how well they shot. Should handle everything from groundhogs to deer.
Field results to follow.
