I'm wanting to put together a single shot .256 win just to play with, so what is the quickest/easiest route to have one made?

Single shot action with a new barrel? Single shot .357 mag and line the bore? Find a 25-20 and have it reamed out to 256?

Just looking for advice before I start buying the necessary parts.

made one years ago for a client. used a savage 219/220 that had a 20 shotgun barrel. used the shotgun barrel cut off and fit a 25 cal barrel into the chamber end. used an altered model 219 hornet extractor. made up into a neat little gun.

I built a .256 Winchester several years ago on a Falling Block Works action which was a modern version of a Winchester Highwall. I machined an octagon barrel for it, it was a neat little rifle at the time you could find factory ammo and brass easier than you can now. I never tried forming brass from .357 Mag. but I know it can be done.

I have a 256 on a model 92 action. It was easy, my dad did it. (actually it wasn't easy, just easy for me.) He modified a 25-20 that was bubba'd.

I think a break open in 25-20 re-chambered and extractor opened up would be the easiest or perhaps a low-wall?

Guess finding a 25-20 may not be so easy, so...

Alternative would be to start with a 357 and re-barrel or line.

Some of my brass was made from 357. It takes a couple steps.

I prefer classic.

Buy a TC Contender and appropriate barrel.

Next in order of practicality:

Rebarrel a strong single shot, preferably one made in 357.

Find a 25-20 and rechamber. However, they are hard to find, expensive if you do and may not be up to 256 pressure. If it had collector value when you start it won't when you finish.

Relining at this pressure level is a no-go.

easiest buy a G2 Rifle Frame it comes with stock and forend call MGM and order a barrel or look at EDs Contenders, barrels 275.00 to 375.00 Frames new around 425.00ish used ? Brass is available getting easer to find, Midway, Reeds custom and others all proper head stamp better to use it is thicker than reformed 357 of course right after I buy all the dies the brass starts to show up everywhere,

if you want change you have to put in your 2 cents, you can't just sit on the sidelines and whine
