What's the difference between the 130gr and 140gr Accubonds? Which would you prefer?

I see both are pretty cheap right now and would like to pick up a few of either.

For deer in PA, I like the 130s. For bear or elk, I'd prefer the 140s. For what it's worth I have a 270wsm that liked the 130s way more than the 140s, so that's what it shoots(even tho I wanted it to like the 140s). In 3 years it's killed 8 deer and an elk, from 30 yards to 397. Recovered 3 bullets, one from the elk, and two from big bucks that were shot at hard quartering angles and encountered heavy bone on the way in. That's all with 130s running just shy of 3400fps, fueled by RL17.

Oh, and believe it or not, deer bite. Fairly hard.

A co-worker gets really nice accuracy out of the 140gr in a .270 Win Savage 116. If I keep the project one I am tinkering on I will probably try some of his to see how it likes it.

The difference is small. Try both and see which weight your rifle shoots best.

10 grains and BC. The 140 has a .496 BC the 130 is at .435. I have had great experiences with the 140 on deer and elk out to 700 yards never seen a use for the 130.

Of the three 270's I've had, two of them preferred the 130 by a wide margin. I'd prefer to use the 140gr as an all around bullet but the 130 has taken down everything I've aimed it at including last years elk at 480yrds. Try both and see what the gun likes...

Thanks for the info.

The rifle usually shoots 130gr partitions, so maybe I'll try the 140 ABs for something a little different.

My .270 WSM really likes the 140s. Never tried the 130s.

+1

Unless the 130's shoot better, 140 all the way

My M700 and Montana are both very accurate with the 140's.

Perfect deer bullet IMHO.

I've never tried the 130's, but the 140's shoot quite well in my Tikka SL over IMR7977 @ 2950 fps. I've killed an Antelope buck, a Muley buck and a cow elk with that load so far, ranges 60yds to 290yds, good performance all around.

My 270 Win shoots 130 and 140 grain Accubonds equally well. I'm gonna give the 130s a try this year.

not happy with bonded bullets in general, shot a large deer in n.w.pa this year with 180gr. accubonds out of my model 70 .338 mag. deer ran 30 yards before dropping, textbook lung shot, upon dressing very little damage, bullet did not exit! previous deer dropped on the spot with 200gr. ballistic tips, all ranges were 50 yards or less. I prefer exit holes. my stock of .270 130gr. and .338 180gr. accubonds are for sale. J.H.

Son shot a whopper NC mountain doe this year that weighed 142 lbs. .270 Win, 130 AB with 60 gr H4831SC. Don't know why but he shoulder shot her at around 50 yds. Broke both upper shoulder bones and exited. Total mess. FWIW

Putting this in the category of "schitt happens":

A 130 grain Accubond out of a .270 at 200 yards. Quartering away.
