Is it the number 28 or the 31? The '42 catalog I have doesn't show the sights used. The catalog I have that shows sights from the '30's says the 28 is the one. Strobel's book says 31. I would prefer the correct sight for the rifle. The SN is 400938. I'm in the market for the correct sight.

I see no indication that the later R/RS didn't use the, standard for model, Lyman 31.

I wouldn't turn down a Lyman 37, same as 31 with a 1/32" larger bead.

Rory, thanks for posting the pictures. Both of those look identical top each other.

Thank you Rick I suppose the 37 would do if a 31 or 28 isn't available.

Right now there is nothing in the dovetail. I'm sure the front sight was removed so as to not interfere with the view through the scope, an Alaskan.
