Anyone using a digital ear plug rather than muffs? Muffs are hot as heck down here. Very uncomfortable in this hot climate. Looking for a cooler option. Would prefer to be able to hear normal sounds. I only intend to use them at the range.

A lot of the noise is absorbed by the bones behind the ears. Muffles block it, plugs don't.

Thanks RockChuck I am aware that muffs are better. I dont shoot that much really. Mostly sighting in. Unfortunately its 85-95 degrees here when I am doing that so I am looking for an alternative.

Rock Chuck is right. And wrong. Your entire skeletal structure absorbs and transmits sound to your middle ear. Muffs don't cover your skull. The good news is that bone transmission is really inefficient compared to your normal ear canals. Block the canals and you block 90%+ of the incoming sound.

Digital ear plugs are fabulous. The ones with replaceable tips to semi-fit your canals are good. Custom-fitted and molded ones are a lot better.

I bought some mechanical type ear plugs many many years ago to use in a steel shop I worked in.

They did not work to well.

But technology has come a long long way since then.

I like the electronic Muffs my self.

Thanks all not looking to turn this into a debate of muffs vs plugs. Looking for info on digital plugs. I have three sets of very good digital muffs in my bag right now.

Muffs and plugs together will solve any potential hearing problem. Especially around firearms.

LOL. Now that you've said you're not looking for a debate in a Campfire thread, expect to get 4 pages.

Muffs don't block sound directly into the ear very well either.

The dykweasels that turn information seeking posts into a three ring circus with their inane commentary will be along shortly. Four pages of wisecracks, foul language etc. with thousands of views.

Heck I knew it might turn into a cluster fugg but thats the chance you take on the fire. I figured somewhere in there I might get a bit of information and then let the boys have their fun.
