I was at a local gun show and there was a Savage 24 22/410 that I was interested in. The guy was asking $395. It looked to be in great shape. Walnut stock and the bores were both very clean. No surface rust and case colors were good. Wood $350 be a fair price for it? Also, there was a 99EG? with a 6xxxxx SN that someone else wanted $500 for. It had original butt plate, no DT and schnabel forend with steel counter in .300 savage. Yesterday went down to Louiville and only saw 3 99s from $800 to $2300 in .300, 22HP, and 250-3000! Also (2) Winchester 88s for around $800 ea! Thanks Scott

$500 for a 99EG with lots of condition is definitely fair, but I'd be much happier if I could talk him down to $450.

I saw a 300 EG, '51 or '52, yesterday. Wood was maybe 85%. Metal was 90%. D/T with a Lyman 2.5 (All Weather). Rear sight MIA. No sling. I didn't bother to check out the bore when I found out the $895 price was there to stay.
Prices are up and down (mostly up) depending where you are and at what time of day you are there.
Best to ya in '07 .. BP...

Yeah, I gave $415 for my 99R (w/recoil pad) so I think the EG would be good at $450. What about the 24?
Thanks! Scott

I offered 300 for a 410/22 last year...it was more of a mercy offering...and I was delighted my offer was turned down.
When it comes to choosing friends....I'm at an age where I'd rather have 4 quarters than 100 pennies.

IMO the 24's are pricy for what is there.

I believe $350 would be a fair price on the 24. (edit to add: don't be surprised if your offer is countered or turned down) They typically bring $275 - $375 depending on condition, at auctions around here. Dealers will generally have them priced $50 -$100 higher.
In my experience, the .22/410 and .22/20ga are the most common M24's. The centerfires (.222/20, .30-30/20, etc.) and the more scarce rimfires (.22WMR/410 deluxe model) bring about $100 more ($375 - $475). Then you have things like the .357mag/20 and the .357max/20 - I've never seen either.

IMO the 24's are pricy for what is there. Agreed. But I still love 'em, so I go with the flow.

What kinda mount was on it? Scope said 'All Weather' but was a 7/8" 2.5 pwr. I checked a few 1950's gun mags and the only Lyman 2.5 was their Alaskan. Thet did have an ' All American' listed but was a 4 pwr. If I have some time later I will check a few more magazines to locate some additional info on the scope. The scope on the above 99 was very cloudy and in Weaver mounts. Without my glasses I couldn't tell what the rings were. I'll swing by there next week and check it out a little further for you if you like. Make your '07 better'n '06 .. BP...

There was a nice 99G in 250-3000 at the Cabelas here that just sold.. had a Stith with a Lyman All-Weather on it. Was out of my price range. Figured that Lyman had to be worth about $500 to justify their price tag....
