I got 2 boxes of the new 150 grain ELD-X bullets from Santa. Anyone have experience loading these bullets in a 7mm-08? I have Big Game, Hunter, and Varget.

[Linked Image]

I swapped the SA bolt stop on my Tikka Superlite for a LA stop and I reached the lands at 2.987". On the left is my main load, 140 NP at 2.808". I'd like to get close to 2750 fps.

I have the same bullets for my 7mm-08. I'm looking to load H414 in them somewhere from 42 to 44 grains. Re17 shows to get the best velocity comparing manuals and the Hodgon website. I'm trying to find some Re16 also. Please let me know how you fare out. I'll post my results first chance I get. Very busy here with the holidays and a son getting married New Years Eve. Take care.

Pharm, where'd you find the bolt stop?

Been trying to find a couple for a while. None in stock anywhere. Brownells?

With Big Game, Hunter, and RL 17, 2750-2800 should be attainable relatively drama free...

I got the kit from Brownell's a couple of years ago on a whim. I ran some loads through a .30-06 magazine and they fed fine.

Horn is showing 2770 for that combo in their Precision Hunter loaded ammo. A great combo, IMO.

I just got off the phone from Hornady. They said they developed the 150 for the 7mm-08 and the .280 Rem.

They suggested using Nosler's data for the 150 NP with Hunter, max of 49.5 grains, velocity 2869 but from a 26" tube. Adjusted down 90 fps should put me close to 2780. They really like Varget with a max of 39 grains for 2700.

It's a start.

That bullet should work real well with the moderate velocities of the 7-08.

Pharm, just curious (seriously), what are you trying to accomplish with this load that you haven't already accomplished with the handful of super accurate partition/,accubond, and BT loads you already have?

Just remember, the 7-08 is now a 2nd class citizen to the new kid on the block...........the 6.5 Creedmoor. wink

Just go to the current Campfire forum thread on the 6.5 & you'll become a believer instantly.

In true RL (Rifle Loony) fashion I bought another 7mm-08, this one a Tikka Superlite. I want to shoot it a loooong way.

I'll keep my Partition load for the Red Death.

It is pretty interesting that the Creed will shoot a 147 gr bullet almost the same speed and has nearly a .7 BC, compared to the .574 for the 7mm 150.

I'd think a 162 7mm would be better comp. An the eldx 162 is .670...

The creed has no flies for sure....

Agreed. The 162 owns that space.

I meant to say the eldm in my post above as that's what the 147 6.5 is....

Yeah. In my 708s, I'll use a 120gr if velocity and "flatness" are a concern, otherwise its the 162gr. The 162gr has almost the same velocity as the 150 and beats it down range for LR shooting. The 150gr is just in no mans land when it comes to the 708.

Except Hornady doesn't load the 162 in factory guise.

Does any other manufacturer have a 7mm08 factory load that beats the BC of the Hornady 150 ELDX?
