Howdy All,

Just wondering if there are any other CCM fans here. I drive truck for a living, (local delivery) and try to listen to Christian music, when I can get it. I guess the old rock had a pretty strong influence, as I'm very fond of a lot of the Christian Rock & Alternative groups. Big fan of Third Day, Jars of Clay, PFR, etc. Also like some of the mellower stuff, Sara Groves, Chris Rice, Rich Mullins, etc.

I find the music to be a blessing to help deal with the stress of the job, traffic, etc. Much easier to listen to music, than getting in & out of the truck while listening to Christian talk or teaching.

I can't say I listen to it alot, although Wifey has some that I just love. I'm more a Hank Jr and Waylon fan.

There is one praise song group that I really like, and if you ever run across them, pick up a copy. You won't be sorry. They're called "Sanctuary". We heard them at a retreat in Lancaster last year.

C Daniels has one that I like too, called "Steel Witness". But for the most part, I listen to older country music.
(Not the junk they play on the radio)

I have 2 young childen so I have to listen what they like......turns out that I really like it too. If I am not listening to Christian talk/bible study I'll open my ears to.....Third Day, FFH, Point of Grace, Newsboys, Brother's Keeper, DC Talk, Michel W Smith, Sara Groves, and some southern gospel too

AA,

It's pretty amazing to me how CCM can cross generations. Most of what passes for music today just sounds like noise to me, but very little of the Christian music is objectionable to me. There are a few groups that are a little over the line for me, but even then, it's the music, not the message I don't care for.

All of the artists that you list are regulars on the network I listen to. (www.klove.com) I really like a lot of the old classics, as well, and have a very broad taste in music in general. Sounds like the kids are a good influence on you. [Linked Image]

7mm,

I really know what you mean about the "new country". I grew up listening to country back in the 60's & 70's, along with whatever rock my brother played, or I could get away with. I discovered modern Christian music about time the country & rock started changing back in the 80's. I do like some of the gospel put out by some of the older country artists, and for some reason the group Sanctuary sounds familiar.

There are some really good country gospel groups around, and they tend to do "old style" country. Might want to check some out at your local Christian book store.

I'll have to do that, blr358. Wifey's got a couple of old LPs, Johnny Cash, Hank Sr and the like. Hard to find a stereo with a phono now! [Linked Image] Times are a changing.

You ought to see what my brothers and I got for Dad's Christmas present. Four CDs of Time Life "Classic Country" from the 60's and 70's. I got to looking at what all is on them, and I can't wait till after X-mas so I can borrow them! IF- I can get the "Old Man" to loan them. This is what he always had in the 8-track when I was a kid. I know he'll love them, cause I do!
You might also check some of the larger electronics stores & record retailers, both IRW & online. Many of the old classic albums are being re-released on CD. Seems there must be more of us old music fans than the radio stations realize. [Linked Image]

I haven't followed contemporary Christian music for a long time now. When I did, I liked Carmen and Sandi Patti. I do play trumpet in my church's praise band and "Celebration Orchestra." Some of the new stuff is good.

Talus,

I have heard some of Plumb's music, back when I was living in Golden, CO, and had cable, but don't really get a chance to listen to much now. The stations I listen to don't play them, and I never really think of them when buying CD's.

It's been ahoot. I played trumpet through High School, the french Horn through 1 1/2 years of college. When I picked the trumpet back up summer of '01, it had been 20 years since I had played on an instrument.

AFP, my son plays the trombone, tuba, and a variety of other brasses as well as his first love -- drums. That ability is from his mother, not me. I really enjoy good worship music. Our church has pro muscians at vocals, drums, guitars, sax, percussion, keyboards, and instrumants as required, as well as utilizing all the gifted folks from the congregation. I have a hunch that God saves the best muscians in the world for Himself (Sandi Patti's voice comes to mind). Thank you for your church playing.

Blaine, that's great you play on your church's worship team! It takes courage to pick up an instument and get involved after so many years. My wife has been a "Worship Leader" for twenty years... if you've ever heard of Integrity's Hosannah! Music, she's sung on about fifteen of their albums. A lot of CCM is pretty compromised and anemic (there are exceptions)... if I want to listen to "really great music", most of the "secular" stuff is better... I'm partial to jazz and classical. However, "worship " music is another story... nothing like it to ellicit a psalm from one's heart to God.

CCM is great music. Being an ex-truck driver myself it's not always easy to find a good Christian station on the radio. Go to one of the national station's web sites (like KLOVE (I assume it's klove.com)) and get a national program listing. That'd be a start.

3rd Day rocks!!

I have been on a trumpet website, and interestingly enough, the genreral consensus is CCM trupets parts are no longer "lame." In fact, they are getting more difficult and requiring more range. it's all good!

"Creed" is one of those secular bands that plays 90 percent "Christian" music. The lead singer's dad is a pastor and the lyric's show God's influence.

I also drive a local delivery 18 wheeler and like all kinds of music and talk radio. Country,Classic Rock,Alternative,Jazz,etc...If it's good, I'll listen to it...

PowDuck,

KLOVE is exactly the network I listen to most of the time. I drive out of an egg farm in Maricopa, AZ, going to either Phoenix or Tucson. They have stations in both areas, but can't always get good reception due to the mountains.

And you are correct, 3rd Day does indeed rock!! Probably my favorite band, at the moment.

James,

I know what you mean about a lot of Christian influence in secular music now. I believe God is using it to get his message out to some groups that wouldn't be caught dead in a church!

Also agree on having some "back-up" stations to listen to. My taste in music is pretty broad. Other than some of the noise that passes for music nowadays, I'll listen to most genre, as long as it's not crude, lewd, and disgusting.
