If one reads John 13 with an open mind, he sees footwashing just as important as communion. It is what one does when returning to the fellowship of the Lord after having fallen away.
When my mom was dying and could do anything for herself, I washed her feet.

The Mennonite traditions practice footwashing as a sacrament. They are the only group to do so to my knowledge.
BTW I figure that communion in worship is only part of our response to Jesus command at the last supper. Everytime we eat we should remember Jesus and invite him to join us at the table. The same kind of thing could be said about footwashing.
One way of contrasting science and dogma is to say that a scientist accepts facts as given and belief systems as tentative, whereas a dogmatist accepts the belief system as given; facts are irrelevant. (McCain and Segal)

Friend Frog , reckon it is possible that Jesus' comment about the sabbath being made for man , not the other way 'round , might apply to sacraments also ?

That's one of the things that always sort of made sense to me but I never mentioned it to anybody . The fact that you and I consider it as a " possibility " would sound heretical to some posters on this forum , I'm thinking .
Maybe we will luck out and they won't notice it !

Well , no , that's not what I said . In fact , I believe I asked Celtic Frog a question , to which he graciously replied .
Now you have asked my opinion on the Lord's supper and its' relation to salvation and I'll be just as gracious :
The communion act - the bread or cracker and wine or grape juice - has no part in the salvation process in my view . Read Frog's post re sacraments and you will have my view as well .

Gene,
You keep putting up all the stuff you believe, and we'll have to revoke your status in the out crowd - - - or the in crowd. Man, I can never remember where anyone is supposed to be.
I know I'm in with the IN HIM crowd, and that's all that counts, really.

I ain't moved ! It's a campfire . Never was any "in " or "out ". We are all " around " !
I like the "in HIm " ; but that's where we are as individuals . As a bunch , I think we are just around .
Of course , you and I both know that some are " way around " but maybe someday they will " come around " !

The Mayans had it right. If youre going to predict the future, its best to aim far beyond your life expectancy, lest you wind up red-faced in a bunker overstocked with Spam and ammo.
