I picked up a Ruger American in a 30 06. It was an impulse purchase due to price ($199). It has a nice, non bulky, light weight feel. I figured a slim light weight scope would be in order. I mainly hunt food plots. I hope to keep my purchase to around $400. Any ideas??

That is a fine suggestion. Not sure if they're still on sale, or how big your food plots are, but Natchez had the LRD version on sale for about $280 a week or two back. Not sure if they are still on sale.

May want to give our Turion a look. Schott HT Glass, coming out of Light Optical in Japan. 3-9x40, as classic as it gets and everything you need. Glass etched reticle and 4" of constant eye relief, great pairing for a light weight '06.

3-9x40 TRACT Turion

Thanks for the heads up. Just bought one.

I usually shot 75 to 150 yards. I have the Redfield and like it. It seems a little short for this gun. Never heard of the Tract scope. I'm gonna study your link. I might go old school with the fixed 6 x 36

A 3.5-10X40 VX3 would also fit the longer action. You might consider Talley Lightweight mounts to save even more weight.

If you search the threads here you'll find more reviews and discussion on us. Founders left a larger optics company to bring out better products without corporate influence. Direct to consumer sales, so no middle man margin. Basically getting a quality optic for 30-50% less than you would elsewhere. Feel free to shoot me over any questions.

Nothing wrong with a good 6x....but sometimes dialing up and down some magnification is a nice feature to have.
