A member of the shooting team I compete with is offering me a Leupold 15-45x "Wind River" spotting scope, complete with stand and hard case.It has been used three times and is essentially brand new. He's looking for $300.00 for it.Anyone have any experience with this unit? Any comments on price/value etc.I would mainly be using it on the range for spotting targets from 100-300 yds.

there is a reason he wants to get rid of it. it is a piece of garbage. had one and got rid of it. the burris 20-60x80 is much better glass and goes for around $200. Comes with a hard case but you will have to pick up a tripod to use with it. I'm a big Leupold fan too. Hard to beat their vxiii 2.5-8x36 and 3.5-10x40.

Plus, the "kit" can be purchased brand new for right around $260.00 with a little shopping around, so he's not doing you any favors in that regard...

You wouldnt be happy with the wind river for spoting shots at 300yards. I couldnt see any of the .30cal. holes in the black on targets at 300 yards with one. Now a leupold gold ring is whole other animal.

I have a Wind River also. Works well to about 200 yards at the range. After that, not so good. Better than the Nikon Spotter XL I had before it though.
