New guy here. I am working up a load for a Kimber pro Varmiter 22-250. I have tried several bullets and powders and the only load that shoots really well is with IMR 4350. I have tried 3031, H380 and several bullet weights. Anyone use IMR 4350 for their 22-250 loads. What velocity (chronographed) might I be getting out of 38 grains of IMR 4350 with a 55 gr. bullet?

I just looked through my reloading notes and found one load that I tried with 55gr. speer spitzer and H-4350, 40gr. is a full case=3400fps. The groups were under one inch at 100 yards but not fast enough for me. H-4350 burns too slow.
I'm useing R-15 and a 55gr. molyed v-max now, the speeds are a little higher then I'm comfortable with but so far everything has held together. I'll know more after I get a few more fireings on this brass.

Lonnie, I am shooting IMR4350 with 50 grain Sierra Blitz Kings and having very good luck in my Cooper. I'll look back at my notes to see what speed I am getting.

I'm using 55 gr. V-Max's in my 22-250 with Varget. I definitely have got no problems reaching desired velocities and accuracy. Claims of temp. insensitive as well, but not sure as to that validity.

I know your somewhat focused on 4350, but just food for thought.

I am using RX-15 in my 22-250's and it works great. 35 gr. with 55 gr. V-MAX and 36 gr. with 52 gr. Sierra. Are you running about that?

I'm running a bit hotter then that and if the brass dies as fast as I think its going to then I'm pretty sure that I'll back the load off a couple of grains and be in the same range as your load.

In a 1970's Lyman manual their accuracy load with the 50g bullet was 40g 4350. I have fired this load in several 22-250's and it has been VERY accurate, although it may not be the ideal powder.

Settled on 38.5 gr IMR 4350 with 55 gr. Hornady. Shoots really accurate, but I don't think I'm getting much velocity. I'd rather hit what I'm aiming at than "nearly" blow something up anyway. Guessing 3400 FPS...maybe

i am running 36 grs R 15 with 50 max's and in my 26" kimber barrel it is running upper 3700's IIRC, great accuracy and have 10 loads on one set of brass wiht no pressure signs or loose primers. it is fast , accurate and slings much goo on varmints

IMR's loading guide lists 39.5 as max load and speeds of 3495 with the 55 grain bullets

I tried loading a grain or two hotter but dropped back to 36 because it is more accurate in my rifles. That is under V-MAX and Sierra 52 gr. Match bullets. I have not had good results with either 4350 powder. Your results may vary.

You might want to try IMR 4064 and Varget , I have used both of these powders and really like them with all bullet weights while handloading for the 22-250.good luck with your handloading .

You can get better velocity with a 223 and H335 than what you are going to get with 4350 in a 22-250.

I switched to Re-15 in my 22-250. I am shooting bullets from the 50's on up to and including the 75 Amax (my favorite). Shooting the 75's at 3320 out of a 22"er. Re-15 has replaced all the other powders in that rifle. I had tried 4064, 4035, and varget, but now its '15 or bust. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Can't recall the load but 4350 worked great in a 22-250 and 80 sierra match kings!!! I suspect not the best for those light bullets though.

For bullets in the 50 to 55 grain weight range, Benchmark and Varget work best in my 22-250. I think 4350 would serve you best with the heavier bullets.

I believe the Kimber 22-250s have a 1 in 14" twist. I tried 55gr NBT in my Kimber with poor results. Had better luck with the shorter 50 gr NBT and VMax.

The 55gr NBT is 0.813" long. The Greenhill formula indicates that a twist of 1 in 11 would be needed for 3600fps.

Red Rabbit, I do not know the actual twist rate of my barrel but do know its speeds via many chrono sessions and the accuracy have been good enough that several friends sold their heavy barreled mod 700's and 70's why lug 10 lbs when an 8 lb gun does just as well and usually better

MA,
I have only tried TAC and Varget with the 50 VMax, and did best with 35gr TAC in the Kimber.

Also have the Rem 700 bull barrel, which likes 55 VMax and H380 or IMR 4064. Agree that it is too heavy for a walking varminter.
