Meopta 4-12x50 meopro with number 4 reticle. Perfect for low light with heavy post and fine center for paper punching. This as as much scope as you can get for the money in my opinion. I have compared to many alpha scope and it is on par with all I've tested.

I live in brushy land, so I don't take many long shots. My calibers are all in your wheelhouse and are on winchester based actions, either featherweights or kimbers .22-250, 257 roberts, 308, 338 federal, and 264 win mag (oddballl in the bunch its a standard 26" sporter barrel Montana 1999 and weighs as much as 2 of the other ones) as such, and knowing that I am going to be pushing daylight envelopes I like heavier reticles, German #4 is my favorite

My hunting guns are wearing these, and they all have their benefits/detractions, all were purchased new for under $700 each some on good sales :]

Vortex Viper 4-16x44 (hunting model with capped turrets) ballistic dots at 1.5, 4.5, 7.5, and 11 MOA takes me to 650 in .264WM ive been wanting to upgrade this glass for a while but the combo shoots so well, I can't bring myself to touch it...

I really like the scopes with a low end under 2X, if I can see the end of my barrel in the scope I'm a happpy guy, it makes for walking through brush looking for wounded pigs a little less nerve wracking knowing I can get off an aimed snap shot with about the same speed and visibility as a red dot or iron sights...

I find even on 100 yard shots, I might zoom in the check out the animal, doublecheck the sex on a deer, or look for identifying marks, then I usually dial back to 4x or so to take the shot. I'd really like to try one of those March 1-10x or 2.5-25x scopes. Might make me sell off all my other toys!!!

On my do-it-all rifle which is used for everything from antelope to elk every year, I ended up with a Leupold FX 3x scope after trying several different much more expensive (and some not so expensive like the Leupold 6x36 and 2.5-8 x 36) scopes over the years. Not fancy and certainly not expensive, but it just works. Everyones different and we all like different things, but this one works for me.

I have the Super Sniper 6X MQ on my 243 AI, and the 1-4 "Illiminatti" super sniper on my 308.

Either work fine for distances they're designed for. The 6X MQ would work fine for the 6.5 Creed or 7-08.

Just 'cause you can spend more, does not mean you should spend more.

I put a Nikon Monarch 2.5-10X BDC on my elk rifle and I really like it. I believe I spent close to $400 on it 2 years ago. The image quality is quite good and the "bubbles" on the vertical wire are simple to use for quick shots, provided you practice with your rifle and cartridge.

My personal opinion on scopes is more is not more. I would not care to hump a large scope with a 55mm objective through brush, nor would I care to have an adjustment knob hanging out like a sore thumb.

I guess I'm of the mentality that anything more than a handful is a waste!

Why not the 42mm version? It hardly weighs any extra, and tends to fit in most of the same ring combos.

I have similar scopes on all my "all around" rifles:

FXII 6x36 LRD, M8/FX3 6x42mm LRD, or VX2 2-7x 33mm LRD.

I don't twist turrets so I can't speak to that, but on hunting rifles these scopes have served me quite well as I've never found them wanting for anything.

Maybe I'm under thinking this but to me those extremely high magnification Hubel telescopes are specialty items... at least for me. An all around scope is gonna have a few things about it that others do better, but do all the core essentials really well.
