if someone could get it for $425, and yard the stock and scope, you'd be into the bbl'd action for a good price ... I'd say that the complete setup is worth the ante ... ymmv

I have $125 into the same scope on my slug gun. What is the wood worth?
What is the rest worth realistically?

Around 1977 we would buy the Leupold 4x Scopes from Ron Shirks for $50 bucks a piece if we ordered five at a time. I wonder where this person paid $400!
My biggest fear is when I die my wife will sell my guns for what I told her they cost.

you should easily be able to sell the scope for $100, and the stock for $75 ... subtract $175 from $425 (if you were to be the only bidder) ... and you're at $250 for the bbl'd action ... and being a 1971 action, it's got no J-Lock, should have a smoother bolt cycle, and probably a better than average trigger that tunes easy ... I'd say that's a fair deal ...
and you might even be able to sell the bbl for a few dollars to, to help cover the cost of the FFL transfer fee ... assuming you're not an FFL holder ...

I may be disallusioned but I have a feeling the lister for this item has some friends out there that won't let that price stand. I believe there is a lot of bidding up for friends out there. Who is to know otherwise.

I've watched this rifle go through at least one auction cycle without receiving any bids. If it's exactly what you want, it's a fair deal at best. If you want to part it out, the numbers just don't add up. The complete rifle would net you ~ $500 if parted out. Hardly worth the trouble for the $25 profit after shipping and transfer fees. If you want to keep the bare action for a build, you would probably end up in it for ~ $235, which isn't bad for a nice blued early action.
My numbers come from doing this for several years, and selling a bunch of Rem. 700's and parts. Take it for what it's worth!

Why go through the trouble of buying it for the action just go to a pawn shop and get a bargain on a older 700 for $275-$300

When it comes to choosing friends....I'm at an age where I'd rather have 4 quarters than 100 pennies.

Considering the fact that you like this site well enough to rack up 1150+ posts in ~ 4 1/2 months, you might show Rick the respect HE ASKS FOR by not linking to another auction site since 24HCF has it's own auction site available (even to you).... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif" alt="" />

the rifle has been up for auction w/ no bids and has a day or so left w/ no bids. i'd say someone could snipe it for the ante and have a nice starter.

Cohiba I am watching you because you obviously do not have the best interest of 24hourcampfire, nor others here at heart. You have repeatedly stated a desire to stir things up in post and deed.
Please raise your level of behaviour if you wish to be given latitude. art
