Hello,

Having read many times the 9,3x62 can use an unmodified M98 Standard Military action made for the usual cartridges: 7x57, 7,65x53, 8x57 an 30-06, I checked this. What I have found is that, at least, in a Argentine Mauser 1935 made for the 7,65x53, and in a FN 400 series in 30-06, I can only charge four 9,3x62 cartriges, not five. And, clearly, the with of the magazine at the shoulder location of the 9,3, plus the angles of the elevator plate, do not fit very well even with these only four 9,3x62 rounds in the magazine.
So, for a PERFECT feeding of five rounds 9,3x62 in a Standad M98 Military Mauser action, in my opinion some work must be made on the magazine and the elevator plate. As Mauser did making the Original Sporting rifles with very precise magazine and plate dimensions for each cartridge ...!

Hi tomk,

I see the with as a problem. Or, better said, the taper from the back to the front of the magazine box. To me, the 9,3x62 needs less taper than the other cartridges listed. Accordingly, the same in the plate.
By the way, the 7,65x53 and the 7x57, can use the same magazine/plate configuration without ANY issue.

You wellcome! Anyway, this is a rather limited "test", because I tried only these two M98s. May be another military M98 model, or caliber (as one in 8x57...)works better with the 9,3x62.
