Recently I have bought an old model 3 screw (1972) Ruger Super Blackhawk .44 Magnum. I would like to put a scope on it if possible. The flat top has no obvious way to put a scope on it, except to possibly "drill & tap" or some sort of clamping type base/rings. I would rather not D&T. Does anyone have any good way for me to get this done? Thanks Forks.

To my knowledge there is no non-drill and tap solution for a Flattop 44 Magnum--or any Flattop Ruger for that matter. I also don't know if there is a D&T option for the Flattop and it's round-front Micro rear sight because the Super Blackhawk D&T mounts require the deeper, square front, rear sight cavity of the SBH's. Even the Weaver "no drill" mounts utilize the contour of the SBH rear sight cavity as a recoil-shoulder, so I do not think they would work for your a Flattop.
That said, your 1972 Super Blackhawk should accept the Weaver "no drill" scope rail without modification. Be warned, though, that it will mar the finish and will not hold zero through long strings of fire. I have had that mount on a Super Blackhawk and it was an exercise in finish wear and frustration.
If you truly need a scope, you might need a different revolver. The Ruger Hunter is a great choice.

If you want a scope base that hold up to the recoil, you're going to have to d/t for it. Unless you get something custom machined to clamp on the barrel and can live without the ejector.

Thanks, it looks like I'll stay with the open sights, as I would not want to ruin the finish on this accurate revolver.

Yes, the simplest solution is a second revolver. The SBH hunter is a great choice.

Forks..if you have a 1972 "Super" Blackhawk, it is not a Flat Top... Flat Top .44 Magnum Blackhawks ended production around 1960. The Super Blackhawk has a standard Magnum frame and will take the above Weaver base.
