I'm sure the old Grizzly might disagree with you on that one. Having said that, at least you guys can carry protection in most areas that you are likely to encounter one.

Yeah luckily the streams I fish only have black bear . They usually leave as soon as they realize what you are . If not that's what the 44 or 10mm is for.

Am told that black bears kill more people than browns, grizzlies and polar bears. Probably true, more interactions I guess?

I've read that too , couple of reasons probably . Mainly like you said interaction and i've heard that when a black bear attacks he's looking at you as a food source.

according to the news reports, the boy thought it was seaweed, and his board leash got caught on it. His father was taking pictures, thought he saw something odd. When the boy got back to the beach they were scrolling through the pictures and realized what it was.

Now this guy, he knew it was a shark grin

No shark attacks in the swimming pools either.

There used to be a running joke in East Texas. Salesman or friend would ask what color you wanted the lure in. Answer would be, "Any color is fine, as long as its chartreuse".

Ha. Havent given that a thought in 40 years until remembering when, just now. smile

swimming pools alone take way more lives than sharks do each yr.

2016 shark attack deaths Aus. national total = 2
2016 drowning deaths Aus. national total = 280

So much paranoia about sharks, but so much complacency about a big killer with no teeth or appetite, water.
