Ruger single six. Accurate, and you can run it over with a tractor and it''ll still work - don't laugh, I've done it.

Second on the Ruger Single Six..nothing close to it for the price point. Tugged, dependable, accurate.

Not sure what you want it for but the LCR, the new GP100, and the Single-Six would round out my top three.

I bought a 3" SS S&W Model 63 last year and almost immediately sold my New Bearcat with the Bowen steel ejector housing. The Smith is better in every way except price.
8 shots Double action Sweet SA trigger Adjustable sights with a fiber-optic front that also has a square top Better finish (the Bearcat was very nice) Much better selection of grips and holsters including pocket holsters and lasers.
I usually carry it in a Simply Rugged Silver Dollar Pancake holster either cross-draw or strong-side IWB with the accessory straps. The rest of the time it's in a pocket holster.

Nothing beats the Model 63 everything considered. The most used gun I own around the farm.
I have a lot of other .22 Revolvers, but the 63 gets grabbed most of all.
Gun Shows are almost as comical as boat ramps in the Spring.

It'll be my walk-around-on-the-farm pistol. S&W Model 34 4". S&W Model 35 6". S&W Model 63 4". Colt Pre-Woodsman 6". Colt 1st Series Woodsman 4". Colt 2nd Series Woodsman 6". Colt 3rd Series Woodsman 4". Cold 3rd Series Match Target Woodsman 4". Ruger Single 6 Stainless 5.5". Not necessarily in the order listed.

depends on your budget and how important accuracy is to you.
6-8 hundred my choice would be a s&w 18. you're looking at 8 bills but these are deadly accurate and very carry friendly. they will also hold and increase in value.
4-6 hundred ruger sp101 hands down. built like a brick schithouse.
2-4 hundred the ruger single six is a good choice. i could never shoot mine worth a schit though and sold it.
1-2 hundred for a real budget gun, i'd look at those heritage arms clones. they are dirt cheap and probably reflect the price but i have no experience with them so i could be wrong.
My diploma is a DD214

I'll stand by Dan Wesson because 1.multiple barrel lengths can be used 2.easy to install adapter replaces the barrel nut allowing simple installation of a suppressor-plus you can reduce the gap between the cylinder and the forcing cone to effectively reduce noise. 3. change from LR to Magnum availability

My dad traded me one of his K22 masterpiece smiths a long time ago. 10 shots not cheap but accurate as can be. The little kit gun that smith made is darn nice too 22 wmr.
Good luck and shoot straight

My experience between my S&W 63 and my S&W 18 is that the 18 is more accurate and easier to hit with. The 63 is easier to pack along, of course. Either would do the trick, along with the Ruger LCR.
Bearcats and Single sixes usually shoot well for me but I find them a PITA to load and unload.

The best would be the 4 inch or 6 inch Smith 617 SS and if you want cheaper then the Ruger Single 9 or 10 shot in SS
A Doe walks out of the woods today and says, that is the last time I'm going to do that for Two Bucks.

If you like light weight for easy packing I would go S&W 317. Lightest 22 I ever felt. Feels and balances well too. About 600-700 for one. That would be my pick.

have had a High Standard double nine convertible since 1973, 2 cylinder.
very base case but works good w/either cylinder. usually use the .22 mag.
don't see as many now, the woods use to be full of them.
