Hemingway, Steinbeck, Barsness. Hey John, were you able to get your hat on this morning? I thought the same, but I went for a little irony with a left-handed compliment Hemingway, Steinbeck, Barsness. That is putting Steinbeck in a category with two pretty exhalted writers... John

No love for Dave Petzal? He's sure influenced a lot of lefty shooters (along with Boddington).
I'd also include O'Connor (#1), Hagel, Sitton, Aagaard, Carmichael, John Amber, Tom Turpin, and of course JB.

... I went for a little irony with a left-handed complement ... John That would actually fit in a bit better with the post below yours, especially if Askins was added in with Petzal and Boddington.

Excellent answer. Of those, King Solomon is the greatest.
By the way, in case you missed it, Jeremiah was a bullfrog.

Pretty sure God shoots a 270 Winchester. I don't think God needs a rifle, but I know for sure he inspired its development for Montanan's if for no one else. I've got two...

I enjoy reading Wayne Van Zwoll and Craig Boddington; and Gene Hill wrote some great shotgun stories, but my favorite has to be Dave Petzal who wrote: "A man without a .22 is hardly a man at all."

Pretty sure God shoots a 270 Winchester. Reminds me of a guy on thefiringline.com who use to like to say " the .30-06 is God's own cartridge but Jesus likes the .270"

-Jack O'Connor (Western Hunting and 270s) -Gene Hill (Dogs and Birds) I wrote him a fan letter as a kid and he hand wrote me a reply-always impressed me. -Don Lewis (Dogs and Birds) -Peter Hathaway Capstick (African Stories) -Bob Milek (41Mags and the 25-06) -Skeeter Skelton (Handguns and just a good storyteller) -Elmer Keith (44 Mag. His theories on rifles didn't don't appeal to me) -John Wooters (Deer Hunting) -John Barsness (Handloading and big-game)

That's one I don't know. Related to Sears-Roebuck? I have P H Capstick's (chapstick ) books; entertainment for me. I learned you don't want to spear a Cape Buffalo. 10 Pages and only 1 mention of J Sundra. ? ? He--JOC--Wooters--Hagel influenced me most. Jerry

O'Connor and Whelen for me, though vastly different styles, but much in agreement on things. Suprised more folks didnt mention Whelen.
Of the current crop, I like Petzals whit even when I dont agree with him. Boddington and Van Zwoll are good. JB peaks my interest on a more technical side and is not afraid to step out of the box. I love reading Phil's post, does he have a book? Im more of a book guy, magazines get tossed.

As a lad back in the 40's and 50's I always read O'Conner in my dad's Outdoor Life. I started big game hunting in the 60's and was given his "Hunting North American Big Game". It became my bible for a while.
More recently I have followed Jim Carmichel. He's a very, very good competitive shooter and likes the high grade custom rifles that I do. I strongly suspect that Jim is lurking here and not contributing... You want Jim to write something, you gotta pay him. Makes him smarter than most of us.
I've collected books on guns and hunting for many years and read them all. At my age I really need to start getting rid of them.
