When I was quail hunting our shop teacher helped me build a custom box to fit in the back of my 1985 Blazer. It was oak and as pretty as the cabinets in my kitchen. We put in a removable divider to make it from one large compartment into two. It had a half inch "lip" around the top to keep loose shells and empty hulls from rolling off and a removeable gun rack to hold shot guns inside soft casses. The doors had expanded metal inserts as did the sides. We cut slits in the sides near the top to be used as handles when loading or unloading it. It was perfect for the vehicle it was built to fit.

Now days I just use an airline type kennel or the folding wire kennel with the metal pan that slides out from the bottom. It's more a dog show kennel. The nicest I've seen for the back of a pickup are the custom jobs made from diamond plate aluminum. Adjustable ventalation and weather proof. They are nice.
