Does anyone have the LRF 900 or 1200 what is there actual reach under field conditions.Do you really need the 1200 for big game.Would you spend the extra money for the new compact 1200?I'm also looking at the Swarovski but it's a good bit more although I have owned a lot of their stuff and have been very pleased with all of it.The only Leica product I've bought was a pair of 7x42 Trinivids and was very impressed.

The CRF is quite a bit smaller than the LRF. Worth the extra cash I think. The CRF is also waterproof, whereas the LRF is water resistent.

You only need to do a search on CRF to find out what people think of them. I picked on up, and it is a damn fine piece of equipment. I can't see how the Swarovski could possibly be worth the extra dough over the CRF, unless you really NEED something that will range out to 1500 yards, versus the 1200 of the Leica. Leica is smaller and weighs half as much as the swarovski.

So, if you need that extra 300 yards ranging ability, go for the swarovski. If you don't, you'll be more than pleased with the CRF's abilities I'd think.

The only way I'd personally upgrade from here, is to go with a pair of rangefinding binos somewhere down the line and kill 2 birds with one stone.

Can't speak for the LRF, but the CRF does range out to 1200 with little problem, and I've ranged out to 1320 with it.

The Leica Geovids are worth thinking about too. Sure it's a lot of money but you get a fantastic pair of binos integrated with the RF so it's one less piece of equipment to carry.

I used to think my Swaro 7x30 SLCs were pretty amazing (and they are!) but the first time I looked through my 8x42 Geovids a huge difference was apparent, and that was during the daytime. The difference only becomes more pronounced in low light. Ranges are returned lightning fast and they will range out to their rated 1300 yards in bright daylight (which is more than I can say for my Leupold RXII). They are much easier to hold steady too due to the extra weight.

I've got an older LRF and love it. Longest i've attempted to range with it was about 900 yards or so during mid day. it worked, at least it read 900 yards or so. i'll have to check up on those CRF's this Saturday at Sportsman's. The best place in town to work part time, mainly for the discounts.

I'm still driving a very early production Leica 1200LRF and it has never bobbled,in even the slightest way.

It is very seldom dry and "scan" is moot,IMHO....................

Between pards and I,we've the 1200LRF pretty well covered(dozen or better).

The scan does dick, but cost more and that personally do not soothe my senses.

The Pimp and I have the oldest specimens and both remain stalwart in the extreme and I don't mean maybe......................

I owned two 1200 LRF's prior to acquiring my Geovids and I was able to range out to the mid 1200's at times. The scan feature works very well when varmint hunting as I can scan as many varmints as I want and then shoot the known distances. My problem...these days...is just the remembering part!!

I owned those LRF's from the year they were introduced until the Geovids came out...whatever length of time that is (told you it's the remembering thing). No problems whatsoever and they were tools to be used, not coddled.

Perhaps other brands have adjustable eyepieces now, I don't know. But the 1200 LRF's has an 7X adjustable eyepiece that closed the deal for me.

They seem to be the complete package.......right after the Geovids........grin.

I had gotten the Leica Geovid BRF for my husband last year & he said he liked it for his prairie dog hunting.

Something that may be of interest to some of you:
I just noticed that the Leica LRF 1200 Scan rangefinder is on sale at cabelas.com for 499.99. (reg 599.99)
It's item # OG-711740 (I think).

Have fun & shoot straight!

Sounds like it's better to buy from Doug! (not sure who that is, but I'm sure regulars do)
Whoops- here I thought I'd save someone 100.00 and almost cost them 70.00. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" /> Thanks for the info!

Doug @ Cameraland is the sponsor of the Optics Forum and is pretty much the go-to guy around here for all things optic related.

I love Cabelas, but their prices on optics aren't too hard to beat, but it was a nice gesture to post what looked to be a good deal.

It's the thought that counts....

My!! You're everywhere...glad to see you're spreading your wings. You have every right to do so. In fact, you may enjoy and involve yourself in the shooting sports more than many who visit.

Your husband, at least at somepoint in time, would have had serious "dibs" issues on you had he not made you an honest woman when he did. You bought him a Geovid also!!! You now know definitively where a man's heart is, at least mine anyway! I've just broken "Man Rule #2"....don't let on as to what wins us over...keep them (read....you) guessing.

Let me see. That's a Geovid, a Giraud and a Juenke......and this is all that we KNOW of. Geeez.....I'm feeling a little underappreciated here. Me thinks maybe not a trophy husband after all.......? Perhaps she's just using me..........PERFECT.... I'm good with that!!

I bought 2 Geovids when they first were introduced, the 8X42 and 10X42....love 'em. Your husband is right. They are perfect for PD hunting in every respect. I also find them quite useful for big game hunting as well. They are a quality item as are all of the Leica products. I've also owned their Compact 62mm spotting scope since it's introduction...great for the range as well as for packing-in while hunting.

Hope to see your name attached to other posts as I meander throughout this forum.

You're a welcome addition as a shooter and a hunter.

Maybe you'll teach us a thing or two.....grin.

I've got to have something you don't have!!

Just duct tape your LRF to the top of your bino's...same results.....different approach.

Tim - I know you'll have 'em shortly.....that's one loonie to another.
