Hello Guys, I am new to this forum and need some advice <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/help.gif" alt="" />. I am looking for a new rifle since I sold my Winchester 270WSM Super Shadow Model 70 three days ago. I want something in the same caliber but wood stock bolt action. Price range from $600 to $1000 dollars.

My choices so far are:

1. Tikka T3 Hunter.
2. Browning A-Bolt Medallion with BOSS
3. Ruger M77 Hawkeye
4. Kimber 8400 Classic
5. Remington 700 BDL or CDL

I want something accurate and reliable. Let me know which one will be your first choice, second, third, etc and why, so I can learn more from this rifles.

Also I am LH and don't know if TiKka and Kimber makes this rifles for LH hunters. Thanks any advice is appreciated.

Do you hunt with a loaded chamber? If so the Kimber has a good safety.

Yes, i hunt with a loaded chamber. Kimber is a very good and accurate rifle from what i been reading. It's hard to make a choice from the 5 rifles that i am looking at, that's why i need some advice.

Personally I like the Kimber, others will argue for the Remingtons. It is hard to go wrong with any of the ones you name.

The Tikka T3 Deluxe is a great looking rifle for the coin, not bad wood.

Why the Kimber 8400 vice the 84M? The 84M is about a pound lighter is it just the caliber?

If I may add my 2 cents,I have owned a rifle from each of the makers listed, and now have 3 Tikka's.I bought the 1st one 2 years ago and havent looked back.In my opinion you get the most for your money and that is alot. All 3 of mine are VERY accurate with many different loads, they are a pleasure to carry in the field, and even come with free rings (if you dont mess them up like I did).Overall I dont think you can go wrong with any of the rifles you have listed,it all comes down to personal preference and how much you want to spend. For me it was with a Tikka, but it may not be for you.Hope this helps-Tim

If out of the box sub-MOA accuracy is important, the Remington 700 BDL or CDL would be the logical choice.

I'd buy a .30-06 personally.

I don't know about left handed options with the Kimbers, and if I remember correctly, Ruger isn't chambering the Hawkeye in WSM calibers, (I may be corrected on that point though.) I have one Browning A bolt chambered for .223, and it is ok, it just doesn't call out to me when the safe door opens. I think the Left handed Tikkas are out now, and not counting beefs taken from an aesthetics standpoint, they are fine rifles. Nicely accurate, good trigger, a good many plastic parts, including the detachable magazine and the bolt shroud.

good luck, in which ever direction you decide to tread.

The best prices so far on the five rifles at Able Ammo.
Kimber 8400 Classic $946.00,
Browning A-Bolt Medallion with BOSS $860.00
Remington 700 CDL 719.00
Tikka M3 Hunter$598.00. or Tikka T3 Deluxe $878.00
Ruger M77R $485.00

It's hard to decide. Tomorrow I am going to call Kimber, Tikka and Remington and ask some questions.

I Know that Kimber is very accurate and reliable but also is the most expensive out of the five. I was really looking close at the Browning Medallion but I've heard too many bad things and for the price I rather go with a Kimber. Now I been hearing good things about Tikka's Rifles. They are accurate and reliable for the money.

I guess I have to decide between Kimber, Tikka and Remington.

You're LH?

No LH Kimbers.

That leaves you with the Remington and the Tikka.

I'd go with the Remington, just because of the availability of components, accessories, and flexibility of the rifle, and the fact that it's trigger is easily tweaked.

I'd advise you, for whatever it's worth to you ... to get a LH Remington, and be done with it. Being a lefty, you're kinda hamstrung from the get-go regarding your rifles ... Remingtons have the most (by far) aftermarket items available for them, and there shouldn't be a smith out there that doesn't know how to work on one ... The Remmy is going to shoot as well as any of the other rifles out there, and will offer you more down the road, if/when you decide that you want to customize it more to your liking ...

There you guys go dissing the handi rifle again. I just picked up a used.243 that'll get 1" groups with factory win ammo. I don't need to spend a bunch of money to impress my buddies while hunting or at the gun range the targets speak for themselves, The money saved can go to buying ammo to practice with.
