No, haven't been there since 2004 and my "Toy" is white. Might get there in the spring, except we are probably going to the Yukon...but, I miss "home" and want to do some fishing up Wilson Creek and so forth, I'll PM you if I am coming that way.
My ...stunt double........poor bugger, eh?

Just as well, the ferry was crippled and they were using one of the tugs to push it back and forth. Made for a long wait and some interesting docking as they bumped the ferry back and forth to line up to the loading ramps.
Yukon is awsome. Don't know what your time line is like, but if you can, check out the area between Haines Junction, Yukon and Haines, Alaska. Also if you go in early May, there is a lake near Carcross, not far from Whitehorse, IIRC, that is a stop over for the trumpeter swans. I travelled through Yukon, NWT and Alaska in 94 and 96 and will definately go back when time allows.

I thought I saw Kute walking around the Edmonton airport with a baseball bat looking for foreigners.

My wife used to nurse (RN) in the YT and NWT and would like to retire there or in northern BC as would I; many years of working alone in wilderness has made me detest urban areas and I hate what Vancouver has become, it is a cesspit of scum from all over the world due to our traitors in government, so, the YT seems like the place.
That was/is not me at the airports, could be another REAL Canadian who has had enough of the disgusting situation concerning the "takeover" of our country by the hordes from the "Third World"....thanks, PET, you [bleep] commie traitor.
I do not carry a baseball bat, I carry my Viking axe and speak very softly as everyone here knows that I am a mellow old fellow who only wants to "preserve our traditions"......knida funny how foreigners are encouraged to do this, but, those of us whose ancestors built Canada are discouraged from doing so, including gun ownership.........kinda makes me wonder, eh?
I am definitely going to the western YT and up around Dease as well, maybe east to Toad as that country, although not the Kootenays, really appeals to me.

We need more people like you Kute running this country. Its unfortunate but an escape to the north might be the only way to enjoy it in the coming years.

Secret???? My great-great- uncle, Peter Updahl from Molde, Norway was in the Klondike Gold Rush circa 1898, after he had been working on the C.P.R. original line from the 1880s on. He brought my Grandmother, his niece, to the Kootenays about that time and then went to the Yukon, it is hardly a new place to me.
Maybe around Toad or Dease, just need a couple more exploring trips to decide.

Kute: It really gets my guts rolling and I have to reach for the rolaids again, when I read about how your family pioneered in this country now you have to move away because of the living conditions in East Van. It makes a guy wonder what's it going to be like for the next generation? Well your dogs will have lots of room to run around and they have email up there. Have a good day if that's possible in east Van.

I don't think it matters a popcorn fa*t in a gale when a person's family came to Canada as I believe in equality for ALL Canadians, aboriginal, native-born and naturalized, period. SOME immigration is GOOD for every country and I also do not care what colour someone's skin is or where they were born, it's how they act here that concerns me. I am sure you agree with this as I think that most Canucks simply want decent, respectful behaviour from newcomers....whay it that so hard for some to understand?
I usually have pretty good days as I worked dammed hard and now have a good life, except, I get REAL pizzed off at ethnic groups/inidividuals that whine about "racism", aboriginals that snivel about "rights" and scumbag "white" politicians that cater to them. We need LESS government and MORE guns!!!!!

I agree with your comments. I think along the same lines and we are not alone. Everyone who discusses this issue all speak about this common denominator, which is "If you want to live in Canada live like Canadians" leave your wars/hates and customs where you came from an accept our way of living instead of molding this country to suit the newcommer. Main stream Canadians don't like special treatments lavished onto the minorities and Politicians need to wake up to this fact.

Dont get me started about the influx of immigrants. My country is being torn apart be uncontrolled influx of eastern europeans that seem to only bring lawlessness with them.I absolutly agree that immigration is good, but not as we are experiencing. The UK governments prediction that about 40,000 poles would come over here the actual figure is in excess of 650,000. David

Medved, these fellas are not skewering you. You are what is good about immigrants. Consider those who make you ashamed. You seem to be a Canadian-in-training and that's a good thing. Others ran away from one place and appear to be trying to make the new place just like the one they ran away from. They never give a thing back that is good. their shame, not yours.

I think this is common in most of Western Civ; it is in the U.S. also as we've discussed before. It is my contention that as a nation, many good, decent, hard working people excepted, we are losing our way.
There is little "Americanization"/assimilation (that used to be a good thing; I'm not so sure anymore) going on; rather our teachers have to learn Spanish because we can't expect the kids to learn English; illegal immigrants are in the running for driver's licenses, free health care after they get amnesty, etc. But that's only one issue among many.
It's interesting to me that for example in Namibia, Africa with multiple tribes and native groups, many Portugese and German families from colonial days, the national language is English. The U.S.? No. That would reflect imperialistic thinking and reflect an attitude that western culture is superior.
Not a pleasant thing to say but I believe we are losing what made us great and gave us moral authority which means we are declining as a nation by many measures. I only hope in Canada it's slower.
As has been mentioned, immigration lawfully and in a controlled, orderly way is a very good thing. Heck, except for the natives which themselves were immigrants at one time, we all were or our descendants were not so long ago.

medved I am all for immigration, but what is happening over here at the moment is incredible would you beleive that when the soccer world cup was on, that some countys had a ban on people flying their flag of origin, because it could cause racial tension! i mean that i could not fly the Union Jack in my own back yard.It was heavily reported on the news that some shopping malls banned Christmas decorations incase it offended non cristian beliefs.Any immigrant that pays their taxes and intigraits with the community should be proud. I`m sorry if i offended anybody, but we have just opened our borders even further and we are experiancing crime levels that would make your eyes water and your heart sink unfortunatly the people that are responsible are almost always from the east.
