I have two CDS dials. If I used one that's setup for one cartridge's ballistics could I use it for another cartridge with very close to the same ballistics and be fairly close to the yardage settings. I realize it wouldn't be the same but I'm curious what the difference might be.

fairly close is the key words.

Just run ballistics charts for both loads online and see how they compare at various ranges. Leupold uses the same ballistics data when figuring the dials, so it's not difficult.
