Sorry, I hit the submit button by accident. Not going to mess with mine either. Any idea how many cut checkered 284 were made?

Counting yours? 4. grin

Yeah I'm pretty much having a love affair with mine. I stroke her, talk to her, wipe her down with oil. Sometimes I just hold her. You know how they like that.

Funny. We go to bed at night, laying there all quiet like, and I say, "You wanna talk about Savages?".

She just says "I wish I was a Savage". Then we roll over and go to sleep. Just passed 10 years. grin

Mines stuck with me 14 years, why I have no clue. I started hunting with a 22 high power when I was 11. Got away from them for awhile and now am obsessed with them. I will show my wife your last post to prove that I'm not the only savage wacko out there.

Mine has a Chicopee falls barrel also. I just got the book by David royal. Lots of great info and pictures. I have 5 99s now and hopefully I can learn a little more about each one.

I looked at Doug Murray's book and the Chicopee barrel makes no sense to me either.

1964 seems rather late for a Chicopee brl. Are all the 284's Chicopee's?

When you have a guy that goes by "99aholic" with only one purchase to his name you know that this auction will be dangerous ground to tread on. The auction will likely top a grand when completed.

I was never much on 99's with that excessive amount of wood on them. Fat forend, monte-carlo stock, it just turns the gun into something that takes away from what it is that makes it special. Sort of what Ford did to the Mustang early on. They just kept making it bigger and bigger and ruined what it was. But maybe that is just me.
