A busy doctor friend of mine, knowing I am in the safari business, asked if I could recommend a stateside big game hunt that he could do over a long weekend. Between his practice and his family, that is the longest time he could get away alone.
It has been a long time since I hunted with any North American outfitters so I'm asking for ideas and names that I could pass along to my friend. He specifically wanted "a cabin, a fire, a rifle, and quiet". It would be just him on this trip.
Suggestions appreciated.

My KSU friend is correct, pronghorn, hands down.
Many of the pronghorn tags are "draw" though and time is getting late. I hunted them numerous times but my outfitter died on me. Suggest you contact a booking agent and tell him what you are looking for and let him make you an offer. I suspect that costs in northern states would be $2500 or so, or double that in some of the trophy areas in Az, NM.

This. He'll likely spend less travel time getting to pigs than to pronghorns. FC

If he's got the money, start calling CWMUs in Northern Utah. The ones that have pronghorn could easily get it done in 3 days. Unless he's not picky, I'm guessing many could get him a mule deer or elk in 3 days (seperate trips) as well. Fly into SLC and be hunting in a few hours.

Black bear is more of a sure thing. Depends on where you go. I went to Ontario twice, the second time with an outfitter that had dang near 100% shot opportunities for archers. Saw a grand total of one itty bitty bear in 13 total days of hunting. For more of a sure thing I'd be looking at far northern Saskatchewan, Alberta or New Brunswick. Those destinations will require more travel time than he can fit in over a long weekend. Another vote for antelope.

Black bear is more of a sure thing. If the weather cooperates, that is.

Bison Hunt or if he's got BIG $$ to spend, Three Forks in Colorado for Elk. Not exactly a cabin, but they've got a fireplace and everyone I've spoken to has been put on elk every day they hunted there. He could fly into Steamboat.
