I just saw a used one at a dealership nearby, at what seems to be a reasonable price. Anyone familiar with that engine? Any towing I do is pretty light, so I think I'd be OK there. Any reason to stay away from it? Or is it good to go?

In about 1991 I put one in an '86 Nisan pickup. I left the engine stock with all its black paint. It was a beautiful job. The transmission was a 700 R. The stock differential gears were retained. If someone didn't know it wasn't stock they wouldn't know. I lifted the pickup 3" and had the front wheel wells modified to accept the 33X12.50 tires. It was magazine quality with its hand painted pin striping.

One time I was on a trip in Southern California and had some air conditioner problem. I didn't tell the guy about the engine swap. The mechanic popped the hood and exclaimed, "Good job!" Anyway, couldn't help myself.

It regularly got 16 miles per gallon around town and twenty on the highway. Never had a lack of power.

Few people here would argue your amazing talent, but putting a 2014 engine in a truck 23 years before it was even developed, surpasses all yout accomplishments to date.

This 4.3-liter power plant makes 285 hp and 305 lb-ft of torque and is an all-new V6 engine, despite it carrying over the same displacement as the previous Silverado V6.

Solid little motors. They make plenty of power for a half ton pickup. As long as you're not towing much, you'll be happy.
We have a handful where I work for our sales staff. They have proven themselves pretty reliable. In fact, can't think of any problems we've had at all.

The 4.3 chev was very solid.

UPS ordered/retrofitted many of these into the fleet.

My brother has a 2014 crew cab 4x4 1500 4.3 he loves it gets good mileage. Plenty of power. I drove it 600 miles on a trip and could not tell it wasn't a v8. He doesn't tow much so can't say about towing.

What kind of mileage are you getting?

If directed at me, I don't own one. the old 4.3 was a great motor in the S10 platform, its the proven 350 with a couple of the holes lopped off...

the eco tech i have no experience.

My question is for anyone that knows what kind of real life mileage they're getting. Just curious to compare.

Yep, as it was 2014
The launch of the EcoTec3 engine line, including the 4.3L V6 LCV, coincides with the launch of the all-new 2014 Chevy Silverado and 2014 GMC Sierra.

I would bet it is another case of being mistaken and not knowing what he actually was using, more than likely it was this one.
The 4.3L Vortec built today is certainly different from the original Vortec first offered in the mid-1980s.

No,the ecotec is naturally aspirated. The 4.3 has 11.0/1 compression, variable valve timing, and variable displacement. As in it runs as a 4 cylinder when power demand is low.

One of my coworkers purchased a 2016 c/10 w/ a 4.3. I was quizing him about it today. He commutes over 60 miles daily in the truçk, and uses it for light farm duties.

He says 18 to 20 mpg, and far more power than he had with the S-10 and 4.3 Vortec.

I had a 99 S-10 Blazer w/ 4.3 Vortec. It never did see 17 mpg, so apparently the new engine is much improved in milage as well as power.

You have a time machine?

This isn't your mama's 4.3. Totally different motor. It just happens to be the same displacent.

Have had a 2014 1/2 ton double cab 4x4 Chevy for about 30 months now with the 4.3. Only pull a 16ft. alum. boat and small pop up camper. So far (at 42,000 mi.) it's averaging 19.7 mpg overall.

I bought a new one a couple of years ago. So far I've put 33,000+ miles on it. No complaints so far. I'll let you now in about twenty years if it works OK.
