I'll tell them a geographic area, but don't narow it down any more that a nearby town. With what I give up, they'd pretty much have to follow me there to find it.

Not a chance.

If you hear me tell someone where I hunt, you can bet that it is not anywhere my sons or I are serious about.

I tell them where I hunt, but I mostly hunt on private land and on most of it, around 8,000 acres, I'm the only hunter who is allowed access.

County is as close as I will go, unless we are in the same hunting party... wink

the only real difference between a good tracker and a bad tracker, is observation. all the same data is present for both. The rest, is understanding what you're seeing.

LOL.

I got death threat PM's once when I refused to tell a guy on the internet where I specifically hunted. I told him to bring his best game and he seemed to lose interest in the entire message he was delivering.

I think he was used to intimidating little kids and old ladies and being challenged with the offer of an address where he could find me if he was serious threw him off of his game. grin

It's official. I missed the selfie deadline so I'm Maser's sock puppet because rene and the Polish half of the fubar twins have decided that I am.

If you've read my blog (see the signature) or paid attention to my posts, you'll know I'm in SW Bracken County, Kentucky. I say it's Neave, but it's really closer to Browningsville. I'm on the old Browningsville-Powersville Road between Pity Creek and Yellow River Creek just across the hollow from Eli.

It took a lot of digging to find that out. You see, Browningsville fell off the map some time after 1884. Just about then, the two doctors that lived there took to squabbling over a bill and they shot each other. The town went downhill after that. At its height it boasted a post office, a school, a mill and a church.

Nobody knows the name Pity Creek anymore, but it got that name from a shack that was a ways up the hollow from me. A poor widow lady raised 6 kids in that shack back about the turn of the century. Now its nothing but a blue squiggle on the topo. Most of the neighbors call it Willow Creek, but the main branch of Willow Creek forks off to the east well downstream of my property.

The road now ends on my place, but it used to extend down the middle of my farm and run clear to Powersville. The families that lived on these ridges kept it open until about 70 years ago so they could all ride to church in the same wagon.

Eli showed up in a railroad map drawn up in 1858. However, I never saw any mention of it after that. My one neighbor that died recently told me he remembered what remained of a store there when he was a boy. However, the name had already been lost. It was a popular hillbilly bar when I first moved in. It's now a garage.

If you get lost on your way, just stop and ask folks for direction to the old Ramsey farm. There are a bunch of Ramseys around, but I've found everyone knows the old Ramsey place. Grandma used to entertain the hunters in her dining room.

As soon as I took over the place, I began to name everything so we'd be able to talk about where we were hiking and where we were hunting. I used place names from the Greater Cincinnati area for some of it: Vine Street, Fountain Square, Westood, Oak Knoll, Glenway, etc. There are also names like Dead Skunk, Cheesy Hollow, Beaver Seep, and Gobbler's Knob. As time progressed, I began using alphabetic similarities by zone: Each zone had a letter, and a designated pickup point, and all the stand names in that zone had names that started with the same letter. As a result, there is Zone 'H' with pickup points Hotel 1 and Hotel 2 and stand locations "Heartbreak Ridge" "Honey Hole"and "Hammond North" This is so we can now radio back to camp:

"This is Earth calling All-Stations. Earth calling All-Stations. I have a buck down at Campground between Charlie 1 and Charlie 2. Request Pickup."

And about twenty minutes later the deer wagon shows up within a hundred yards of the carcass.

I'd appreciate it if you'd not come by during season, but anyone who wants a tour of the place is welcome to show up. Watch out. The end of the road comes up fast, and if you're not careful, you'll go right into my tobacco barn. Most days, if I'm not at the house, you'll find me strolling down Vine Street.

No way I'll tell. I won't mention anything more specific than the county. I live in GA. Eight year old son killed his first buck that resulted in him winning a brand new truck..it really happened. I was deluged with calls from Florida hunters wanting to know if I'd take them hunting, where was the farm, who is the owner, etc. Crazy. No way.

Now I'm like 007 when it comes to locations.

I'm on vacation today, and I'll be out in the mountains putting up cameras and looking for spots for next season. Every Sunday I hike with my good hunting friend and we plot out the next season. After all that work, we invite people to hunt some of the places as a gang to push deer. But for the most part, we earned our honey holes, and never tell drones. We also never tell how many deer we flatten.

My wife doesn't really even know...Grin...

Two people in the entire world know approximately where I personally hunt, 1 accidentally, but lots ask...

I don't even give them a wrong area, I'll tell them to politely go pound sand...
