I finally received Royals book and have Murrays on the way. Trying to figure out what I have. The rifle is a nice early rifle 110K (1911?), MSA Tang sight, standard long rear sight (fig 3-5)unmarked with a changeable leaf in 30-30. However, that's were it gets confusing. The rifle is in great condition, except the barrel is a later type with an address with - between Ny and Made (fig 6-27) 1930-46 production. The barrel must have been changed out at one time but it looks like it could have been done at the factory because of the wood match up and fitting. Was it common to send them back for repair? Also what type of butt plate would it have. It currently has a SVG hard rubber/plastic plate (replacement). The book is not very clear but would it have the same indian head butt plate as my 1912 22HP? Regards,

Any markings on top of the receiver ring? Does it have the Savage proof on the barrel or receiver (SP or SAP left rear of brl or left side front of receiver.)

The SVG marked butt plate sound like what was used on the 29 pump .22 from the 30's.

I have not used a hosting sight for a few years but I'll figure something out to post some pics. I'm traveling and do not have access to my pc. There are no markings on the receiver ring. On the left side of the barrel in front of the ring it is marked 30-30. In between the 30-30 and ring is a small SP stamp. Dimensionally the stock is almost identical to the 1912 HP. The HP has a slightly higher and thinner top to the front of the comb. They both have perch belly stocks. I forgot to mention that the barrel is 20 inches long and crowned. The ramp is like version 7 (fig 5-14) and measures approx 9/16 inch at the end (tape measure). The butt plate I know is a replacement because the previous owner told me it was replaced around 1983/84. Thanks for the info. Let me know if additional info is required. I know pictures are desired and I'll work on that.

Type 7 ramp front sight came out about 1927 on the medium weight barrel. The wood on the forearm would have had to be opened up to take the thicker barrel. The barrel address confirms the later barrel. When JTC did the historian letters and he was informed about the barrel address he could often find another entry where the rifle had been sent back to the factory for repairs. David

Jeff, thanks for the pictures. I took the butt plate and forearm off and they both serial to the rifle. On the forearm you can see where it was ever so slightly trimmed away only where necessary to get a tight fit. Accept for mods to this rifle I think both rifles are cosmetically in the 85-90+ range. Are there any original rubber indian head butt plates available or should I just look for a replacement?

Hard to tell if factory or gunsmith. Nice that the original rear sight is still there.
