I just wound up with a Ruger #3 in .45-70. will a Ruger #1 barrel rib fit on this? if so, which one will match the #3 profile? Numrich lists #1 A, B, S, and H.
if I had to guess, I'd say #1-S...

The 1S would also be my guess since most of the No. 1 .45-70s were in that configuration. If you want a small caliber, I'd just go for the caliber you want, buy an unfinished #1 forend with that contour barrel channel and fit and finish it. That's what I did to get a "#3/1A" in .243.

Mesa, does the #3 lever work OK with a pistol grip stock?

Toad,
The No. 3 lever does work with No. 1 wood. Depending on the size of your fingers, you might not be able to put them under the lever as intended.
I have long skinny fingers, so I just wrap my hand over the lever.

Toad, I just put a No. 1 stock on a No. 3 and it works fine. I have no problems with it. Still kicks too much though.

I had to reshape the pistol grip a little to make the #3 lever work, but I like a more open pistol grip ("half pistol grip" or "Prince of Wales" type)anyway, so copied the one on my old Fox Sterlingworth SxS shotgun.
