I'm looking to sell a left handed Remington Model 788 chambered in 6mm along with reloading stuff for it. It comes with: 1 Lyman full length sizing die. 1 Lyman seating die. 1 RCBS seating die. 100 empty brass. Half are new, other half older. 111 Speer 75 grain hollow point bullets. 66 Nosler Partition 100 grain bullets.
It's not pretty, was my very first rifle I bought in 1981 as a kid, had to cut off some of the butt at the time to fit me when I was smaller. Added a thick recoil pad later to reclaim some of the length of pull. It didn't fit properly so I sanded it down to fit. Side of recoil pad shows that. I also tried redoing the stock finish (first time trying to do that)so it's not a very pretty gun. But it has always been super accurate, been a great gun. For someone with more skills at making it pretty than I have would end up with a great little lefty rifle. Sentimental value to me is high but I simply don't use it anymore. Looking to sell the whole bundle for $500 O.B.O. PM me if interested. Added pics via the File Manager here, hope they show up. VoiceMan
Yeah, the right sided eject always seemed a little odd to me too. When I first bought it, it was about the first left handed rifle I'd ever seen, and since my mom had a 6mm (the one I learned with) my dad suggested I grab it. I've never regretted it, I just have other rifles now that I use more often.
I am interested in your 788. How accurate is it now? Load data? Do you know the approx. round count? Any problem with the bolt handle? Any problem with the trigger or safety? Does the safety lock the bolt? It would ship to 28734. What is your best deal on the rifle? I would send a Postal MO for payment Copy of FFL also.
Hi Coach; The gun has always been very accurate, more accurate than the guy holding it. Last time I shot it I was getting 2 inch groups at 200 yards, which is about my normal with any rifle. I have never had any issue with it regarding accuracy. Once sighted in it has never missed my target.
As for round count, I don't know. I haven't shot it much in the last 20 years. The years I was using it regularly weren't heavy usage either (less than 40 rounds per year usually), so I do not think the barrel has been overly used.
My deer/pronghorn load data: 100gr Nosler Partition 43 grains of Hybrid 100V with an average velocity at 2969 fps. CCI 200 primers.
I've shot H414 powder in it as well as 4831SC, but found in the most recent tests that I got better performance with the Hybrid 100V in terms of velocity.
I also used a load for varmints/coyotes etc using 75 Hollow point bullets (Speer) using 45 gr of Hybrid 100V. But I expect whoever buys it will work up their own loads for their needs. I'm including the reloading dies, bullets and 100 rounds of brass for this purpose, plus the fact I don't plan on getting another 6mm so I no longer need the dies and brass. I have 3 other rifles that I'm using for everything I do.
There are no known problems with the trigger or bolt or safety. The safety does NOT lock the bolt, just the trigger. Functionally the gun has always worked fine, but like I said in the ad, it's just not very pretty.
I'll accept $425 via Postal M.O. for the entire package, with shipping costs to the FFL handled by me.
Bump for my son's rifle. I can attest that it has always shot better than the person pulling the trigger!

I'm a little surprised it hasn't sold either. I've watched a few go for upwards of 800 for just the rifle on gunbroker.com in recent weeks. I admit mine isn't up to that standard to claim that sort of price, but I figure with the dies, bullets and brass it's a pretty good deal for someone looking for a very accurate, reliable lefty 6mm.
