Went to the range today and had a 308 case stuck in the chamber after firing. The extractor didn't tear off the rim. This is on a Savage 99. Any ideas? Or take it to the shop? Thanks.

I'd try a cleaning rod down the barrel and tap it out.

make sure you lift the bolt
It probably wouldn't hurt to stand it on end and let some Kroil works it's way down the chamber around the head of the cartridge.

An hour in one's chest freezer might help as well.

The cleaning rod did the trick. That will teach me to full length resize for a Savage. Thanks for your help.

If sizing was the problem it wouldn't have gotten stuck in the chamber because it never would have gone in to begin with.
One shot, one kill........ It saves a lot of ammo!

A handy tip: do not use mil-surp brass in the Savage 99. It's thicker and does not contract as much after firing. I ran into this problem with my '99. Someone on this august forum suggested I switch to civilian brass. I bought a bunch of 1-fired Federal and been fine ever since.
You won't see the problem with the mil-surp stuff until after it's been fired in the Savage 99 once and then resized. After that it's strictly sticksville.
