Any suggestions on a digital camera with 24x ish zoom that is under $350. I want it to take video as well. I will mainly be taking pictures of my kids doing sports and also take to the woods of to take photos of live and dead animals. I've seen and read positive reviews of a Panasonic LUMIX FZ200
I'm not looking to be a world renowned photographer, just take pics to have pictures of those memories for my kids and family.
I have a small LUMIX that has been great......
Any advice would be great!
Thanks,
d500lnn

Good afternoon The best bet would be the Canon Powershot SX720 Here are the features: 20.3MP 1/2.3" CMOS Sensor DIGIC 6 Image Processor 40x Zoom Lens, 24-960mm (35mm Equiv.) 3.0" 922k-Dot LCD Monitor Full HD 1080p Video Recording at 60 fps Intelligent IS Image Stabilization Built-In Wi-Fi with NFC ISO 3200, Up to 5.9 fps Shooting Zoom Framing Assist Story Highlights and Creative Shot Mode
It has their latest processor. Great low light images and the 40x zoom in a small camera is terrific
We can do the camera for you for $329.99
Call me with any questions

24X zoom compromizes the lens. Unless you just don't care about image quality. 3-4X is more like it. Also look for a larger sensor.

Suggest you also think about one that is waterproof or at least "weatherproof".....I got real sick real quick of buying a new digital camera every time it rained. It's no 24x zoom, but the Olympus TG-4 is working for me. That much zoom, as stated above, compromises the lens ability to take good pictures...unless you plan on spending a lot more.

Potential image quality will generally be limited by sensor size. Here is a graph with which you can compare the various sensors; the smallest theoretically having the lowest potential image quality and low light capability.

I like some things about it, others not. I reckon I'm too used to my old sx260. I'll get it dialed in sometime. My main bitch is they put the video button where the on/off button was on my other one. Everytime I try to shut the fugger off, I take a video.....grin

And hang some landscape pics with your new gear. Lawdy, I only took 34 pics with it so far. Not much of a test... looking at the ranch gate from my deck, no zoom at 40x optical zoom at 160x digital zoom. (the gate is just over 800 yds from my deck) a macro shot of todays arrowhead couple antelope pics at 40x

I would be unhappy with the image quality.

If I was worried about image quality, I wouldn't be using a fugging pocket-sized point-and-shoot. If it don't fit in a shirt pocket or in my boot, I don't have room for it....

Gotta like that Powershot gr8fuldoug offered. Like usual, so many guys don't listen and start recommending the perfectionist products. For a camera you can stick in your pocket and get to almost 1000mm and take hd video....who would have dreamed it a few years ago. Had this same discussion last year with my brother who was going on a big Mediterranean cruise and wanted a great camera but not a dslr. He chose this same camera or an earlier version and loved it. I have DSLR's, a Powershot SX50, SX30 and an older Lumix with HD video that fits in the pocket. I just got a Canon D20 that is supposed to be waterproof. Huntsman, you are making a great choice to get an in the pocket camera that goes in the field rather than sit in camp or in the truck. Camera discussions remind me of spotting scope discussions. It doesn't matter how good it is if you won't carry it in the field.

If I was worried about image quality, I wouldn't be using a fugging pocket-sized point-and-shoot... Check out the photos on this page that were taken with the Nikon AW 110 and the Olympus Tough waterproof pocket cameras. http://www.theflyfishingforum.com/f...tch-camera-suggestions-3.html#post880079
