I didn't know they made a double stack 1911, does it take away from the sleek look? How many rounds? It holds 13 rounds. It still has the sleek slide, but the grip is a bit beefier.

I didn't know they made a double stack 1911, does it take away from the sleek look? How many rounds? Not sleek, 14 rounds if memory serves. I believe the 14 is the most common but this one is the "compact" with "only" 13 rounds of .45 ACP.

It's there. Trust me... That frame was once the lower half of a basic Colt 1911 that Aaron Hogue (yes the grip guy) bought for me in 1983 at cost via his FFL. We did pin shoots together then whilst I was in college in SLO.

Google "idiot scratch" and figure out how to avoid it ASAP- before stripping it. Outside of that, should be G2G. THIS . . . also no need for a full length guide rod and yes, plenty of lube.

Previous owner was even nice enough to break it in for me.
What should I know about them that the new 1911 owner probably doesn't? Break it in yourself.

Don't worry about that, it's fine.
Bullcrap, just lube it lightly.
Galco OWB, Alien gear IWB
230 grain lead or jacketed 5 grains 231 Thanks A&F. The Alien gear looks really interesting, especially for the price, and I have a pound of 231 on the shelf. The old Bullseye shooters load everyone used years ago was 5 grains of either 231 or Bullseye. 231 meters better.

Would just add, don't over-analyze it or think it needs modification.Just shoot it - you'll likely be hooked. And please update on how you like the grip, have been curious abou those double stack 1911's, never held one before.

Be careful, 1911's are well known to cause an unexplainable urge to buy more of the same.
It' an incurable love.

We'll all be joining Scott F for coffee and cigars soon enough.
I's also try 5 grains of Unique, if you can find it. I too like the galco for everyday carry.
You've made a good choice. Enjoy. Also, be aware of the previous warnings; they are all true. I have, er, "more than two" 1911s.

The first thing you need to know is that the 1911 is a single stack, American built pistol.
