...or at least I felt like it. I frequent a couple of local shops for fishing tackle. A $350 rod and reel normal sells in these shops for $50-$70, so it would be silly for me not to. I don't buy a lot of guns anymore, but you still gotta glance at the rack. Hey...that looks like a Win 9422 with that $450 tag. Good shape...9422 M. What's the best you can do? That's it. I'll take it...didn't even look at the scope. Leupold 2.5x8 Vari-X III... So, a $400 scope and a nice rifle.... what were you trying to do, jew them down to $400 so the gun would be free?

More than likely the person who pawned it didnt know what he had. Easy Pawn is one of those national chains where everything is priced wrong...just most of the time, it's way too high. I've had real good luck there with guitars. It's obvious that some kid just looks up "Stratocaster" and tags it. It doesn't matter if it was made in Korea yesterday or SRV's #1. Hell, the #1 would probably be cheaper...it's got stickers on it.

I robbed a pawn shop like that a couple times but didn't get away with as much cash.
Pulled a FLAIG'S Custom Mauser (FN Belgium action) with a vintage Leupold M8 scope for $500 OTD if memory serves. Had a bull barrel and one hell of a maple figured thumbhole stock.
And a Ruger MkII Ultralight in .257 Bob (forget what scope but was halfway decent) for $475 OTD.
I'm not as good as you at this stealing, Pat.

I don't think it"s a matter of being good...just being there at the right time. The good stuff doesn't last long.

I don't think it"s a matter of being good...just being there at the right time. The good stuff doesn't last long. I meant in terms of the actual value to price tag disparity. And no, they don't last long. Pawn shops that mess up prices like that tend to have regulars who come in several times a week looking for deals like you got. Never pass a run down pawn shop. Any of the nice ones usually seem to know what they got, at least around here.

Yeah once in awhile you can find a good deal around here. Not a 9422 for $450 but about a month and a half ago I picked up a Winchester 88 in .308 for $270 out the door. It'll be a good brush gun for the cabins up north.
