How do you go about duplicating the reduced recoil loads that remington makes for the 30-06?Ive shot these and they are really nice to shoot and i never hunt where i get more than a hundred yard shot.

I would load up some the 06 to 30-30 level with H4895 that will provide light recoil. Esox357.

130gr spire points are probally Harnadys? The Hornady book says starting load is 44.5 grs H4895. Start there.

But if I start there then thats not a reduced load right? It should be less powder than what the book calls for

the 130's with the Hornady's in the 4th edition manual say start at 47.2 h4895
the 6th edition says start at 44.5 of h4895.
I can assure you that with the 44.5 gr of H4895 and 130 gr bullets they will shoot lightly compared to a standard 150 factory load.
a reduced load does not necessarily mean that it is less POWDER than what the book calls for, it means it is a LIGHT shooting load of reduced VELOCITY, 2700 fps is a reduced velocity from 3200 fps.
If you go by the 4th edition info you ARE shooting a reduced powder and velocity load.

I have shot IMR3031 and 130 gr bullets and it is a mild load. If I remember correctly it was around 49 gr.

I use IMR3031 with 150 grain Partitions and WW PP of the same weight for my wife and daughter for deer and moose. I use 46 gr with a CCI-200 primer. I have chronoed them at 2780 fps, and they are very mild in recoil, yet they do a real good job on the deer the ladies have shot with them. Complete pass throughs on a broadside shot through the ribs. Pretty accurate too -- about moa for the girls from the bench.

The old Speer manuals list reduced loads for most cartridges.
Speer #10 suggests a 150 gr bullet over 24 gr SR 4759 at 1957 fps. Or a 165 gr bullet over 25 gr SR4759 at 1941 fps.
If these velocities are not high enough for the hunting you intend to do, the next best bet is the reduced loads of 4895 as mentioned above.

Well the site for hogdon tells me to increase it by 60%.That dont seem right. That's because it says multiply by 60%, which is not an increase but a 40% reduction.

Look at the Speer manual 13th. 30-06, 150gr. bullet, H-4895 powder, 42.0gr's, F.P.S. 2437, equal to 30-30.

If you load for the little guys you must have some of the fast buring powders on hand. Look at starting loads in any manual for powders like 3031, 4895, RE7, RE12, 748, H380...just use the start loads and you'll have pretty mild stuff.

Go to the Hodgdon site. Click on youth loads click on 30-06;
125 gr bullet 40.5grs H-4895 2615 fps
130 gr bullet 39.0 grs H-4895 2544 fps
135 gr bullet 39.0 grs H-4895 2495 fps

If that's what you gathered from the Hodgdon Website......then you probably need to back away from the scales... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

What Hodgdon means is to start at the sixty % level of the max load listed. H4895 is one of the few powders that can be reduced that much without having other problems.
