I've got a chance to go to POW in August for fishing. My previous trips have been late June thru July 4 with good success for silvers and halibut.
How do things change going in August?
Thanks

What side of the island are you fishing out of?

Not sure about that side. Out of Craig early Aug is prime time for kings, coho, halibut, lingcod, etc..

I've done really well directly off the southern tip of POW island in early August...for silvers and halibut. There can be lots of pinks at times too, and I have found them to be good eating when caught out of the salt. You may catch the very end of the king run too. Last year on Aug 1 we caught 3 kings right on the southern tip of the island, but a lot of them will be spawned out in the creeks by August: at least the creeks in Ketchikan will have lots of dead kings floating around then.
I suspect the silver schools are rounding the tip of the island headed for creeks on the east side of POW and various creeks on Revillagigedo Island, but am not totally sure.
I will be in Ketchikan Aug 4-7 for silvers and halibut again.

We've caught a bunch of silvers and halibut around the mainland just southeast of there in August.

A silver dollar bright pink, caught in the salt and ate that day is one of my favorites.
Yeah, lots of pinks around too in August.

Coffman is pretty much dependent on a hatchery run of coho. Halibut is good though, and the hatchery run is usually good, except for last year. It's an early run of coho so not sure when that starts thinning out over there.
