I'm 42 and the wife just gave birth to our second.
We talked about it. I ain't going to do it. 42 and a child birth. I"d be ready to hang myself..... My brother just had one a couple years ago at age 47. Told him I would have cut my wrists with a dull butter knife first...  Lol. It ain't for the meek! It actually isn't bad. I'm stable, monetarily and personally, far beyond what I was in my 20's. And the little guys keep me young. Just put retirement a couple years down the road is all.  If I had the time, I'd have a bunch more.

My wife had a planned C section for our last child and since they were already there she had her tubes tied saving me the pain, embarrassment and public humiliation of having to be gelded.
I'm still the wild stallion of my youth. 😉

I had pain for almost a year. Maybe my version of taking it easy for a few days is different than other people. I never take it easy, with a physical profession and a farm. I think I over did it in the days after surgery.
Everyone else I know had no problems.

That is what my Dad always said. Somehow he thought it would make him less of a man to be sterile. A weird quirk I could never understànd. I kept telling him, the word is sterile, not impotent.

Get it done! I had mine done in 79 and never had any problems,,except one! Wait a couple days before you jump out of the lifted pickup! When the feet hit the ground the nuts stop too fast!

Not sure about you gals, but I don't want to be that one guy in a 1000 that has pain every time I shoot a load. Can't say swelling balls does much for me either.
