Can anyone offer any info. concerning this new cartridge that was supposedly shown in the Hornady booth at the SHOT show? I find it interesting that there has been no talk about this cartridge, as it sounds like pretty big news to me. Supposedly it was a .300 I believe, with a different case taper and shoulder, along with a rim. Any information that can confirm or deny this rumor would be very much appreciated.

I saw this cartridge about 2 weeks ago. It looks very similiar to a 9.3x74R. It is VERY long with a very slow taper and a small shoulder on it. Of course it has a rim on it also.

It is an interesting cartridge but I am more curious as to what Weatherby plans on chambering it in. It is not a round for a bolt gun and they do not make S/S rifles as least not that I know of yet.

Sounds like one of the Vom Hofe Super Express necked to 30 caliber.
Did it look something like this?

It looks like a rimmed version of the 300 H&H. Holland&Holland make a rimmed version of the 300 and 375 magnums. The rimmed version is for single shots and double rifles.

I spent some time in the Hornady booth and did not see it. I did, however, see the 9.3x74R that Hornady is producing with 286-grain bullets.

MD,

Is Hornady making there own 9.3mm bullets? If so, it would be nice to see them for sale as components. It would make for pretty cheap shooting, and good bullets to boot!

Yeah, it is a 286 Interlock, I believe. I would imagine it would be available in components as soon as they've made enough ammo to satisfy demand.

I just asked for some sample ammo, and it isn't quite ready yet. They claim it will regulate in double rifles, which is one reason I'm interested. It would be nice to find an American factory load that regulates reasonably well in my Thieme-Schlegelmilch side-by-side!

MD,

Good deal! Those should make for some good general pupose bullets.

John,

I hope what I'm reading is for real, as the 9,3X74R is one of my favorites. I imagine this may be in collaberation with Ruger and their No 1 in 9,3...??? I've been hoping that Remington gets their Ruski DR on the market and have been trying to prevail upon them to chamber it in 9,3X74R.

I saw it a wholesale dealer show. It was a dummy round without a primer or powder but did have a 300 WBY head stamp. Sorry but I do not have a picture of it.

I am more curious as to what Weatherby plans on chambering for it.

MD,

Is that what you shoot the B-29 from?

Yes, it is on collaboration with Ruger, which is chambering the No. 1 in 9.3x74R. This was announced last year but the rifles were delayed. I heard this was because they first were going to chamber it in the Tropical Rifle, then decided the barrel conyour was to big, and hence the rifle would be too heavy. Thus they slimmed down the barrel and are now going to be shipping soon.

This is also why Hornady is bringing out the .450/.400 3"--Ruger plans No. 1's in the caliber, but I don't know how soon we'll see them.

The Ruger is now available, http://gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=64001305
but I would prefer a longer barrel, even 26", and a longer forend.

JB,

There seems to be a small resurgence with the 450/400 going on. I have a friend who imports combo guns, double rifles, and shotguns from Germany on a small scale. He is in collaboration with a small German family gunmaking firm to develop and export a quality NEWLY manufactured SXS DR in 450/400 for around $12,000.00. The DR is beautiful in all aspects and well worth the zukes. I wish I could afford one...

Does anyone know WHY Weatherby is bringing out a rimmed cartridge? Are they going to introduce a singleshot or a double rifle? Any rumors or facts floating around?

I suppose if it is a rimmed 30 caliber, it would make more sense for it to be a singleshot, wouldn't it, especially if it was a high pressure round. Falling block (what kind?), break action, ???

Interesting...
