These are on sale and look interesting to play with. Does anyone know the "street" weight on these? Impressions? Thanks,
Matt

They are still a Ruger so Ultralight is a misnomer. My MarkII UL 223 weighs 7lbs 14oz with a Monarch UCC 4-12x40 on it. I could save a few oz with a lighter scope but I like the setup as is. Mine is the walnut stocked version. Not sure if they come in synthetic but that would probably save a little weight.

For me, it is a fantastic handling little rifle and a lot of fun to shoot.

My M77RL ultralight in .257 Roberts weights in at 6lb 12oz bare & 7lb 8oz with Ruger rings & Leupold M8 4x compact. Wood stock density & caliber diameter will influence weight. Like Tatelaw says, it is a fantastic handling & fun to shoot rifle.

I know yours is a Hawkeye, but I have an old tang safety Ruger in the 270 Win and while it is a great shooting rifle, it is not something I love shooting off the bench very much. Have killed a couple of truckloads of deer with it. In fact, I swapped a 700 BDL in the same caliber for the Ruger because the little fellow that had would have to go the chiropractor every time he shot it...lol. I really don't think he was making that up. So my guess would be that it would be a great rifle but might be a pain in the shoulder. Just a thought.

Ain't that the truth Tatelaw! Maybe I'll save the $$ for when the Barrett Fieldcrafts start showing up.

I have seen several on the market lately. I can't remember where, but it seems to be a recent release as I can't remember seeing them in 270 anywhere until recently. There are plenty in 30-06 at CDNN. I have one in 257R and 30-06 and they feel perfect in the hand and on the shoulder to me.

Thanks Paul and peeshooter.
I bought a stainless Hawkeye Ultra lite in 243 off of CDNN when they were selling them for 499.
Bout two weeks later they went down to 450 frown
I have a stainless ultra lite 77MKII in 30-06 with the skeleton stock, and one in 270 with wood and blue.
They`re really nice fitted with a 2-7 Leupold.

I wish I had bought one of CDNNs 223s and 7-08s when they had them. A Ruger UL in 223, 257R, 7-08 and 30-06 should pretty well cover it.

I missed all of the CDNN Ruger ultralights, but found a used one in 7mm-08 this winter. Topped with a Redfield 2-7 it is one handy package. It is not super lightweight, but carries very easily. Mine shoots the Hornady American Whitetail ammo in 1" groups as well. It has a very good factory recoil pad as well, so 270 should not be a beast to shoot in one. I will take the Ruger All Weather Ultralight over the Remington Model 7 stainless all day.

I, too, have an old tang safety Ruger UL in 270 Win. Killed deer by the ton with it. No tack driver by some standards, but shoots well enough. Recoil not too bad. Very good rifle.

There was no greater freedom than when I would leave Holiday Park Fish Camp heading my airboat west toward the Big Cypress. Fuel for 4 days, a good machete, an ice chest. No phone, no radio. Just God and me and the Everglades.

Ruger M77RL MKII in 270 with Western Penna. 10 point.
There`s very little recoil with this 270 as I watched the hit thru the scope.

Ruger M77RLP MKII in 30-06 with Western Penna. 8 point killed on the same Greene County ridge two years earlier.
There was enough recoil with the 06 that I lost the deer in scope after firing.
I was shooting Remington 180 gr. round nose smile
He dropped in his tracks.

I had a MKII in a 270 ultralight and the barrel heated up quickly. My groups started opening up after 3 or 4 shots but completely serviceable as a hunting rifle. There are lighter and more accurate options out there.

I didn't know that Ruger was making an UL these days. My dad had a tang safety one in 270 and loved it. When he passed away, I got the rifle and cleaned it up and loaded some bullets I had that I'd always meant to try. They were Sierra 140 gr HPBT, and they shot crazy accurate. As much as I wanted to keep it, I knew someone else would use it more, so I gave it to Dad's favorite grandson. And I've long wanted my own UL, though I don't really NEED one.

One thing about Dad's UL Ruger - it was easy to handle, pointed great, and just plain felt good in my hands. And, as Dad aged, that light rifle was easy for him to carry. He hunted with it into his early 80's.
