Okay, I hope this isn't to stupid a question, how many lengths of actions are there in 700? I know there are a few more bolt faces, but what about just the actions.
Is it just long and short? I think it's short, long and magnum... but can't find info to verify.
Also...since I'm posting...what length is needed for a 257 Roy?

2...short and long.
Shorts house the 221/223/308/SAUM/WSM.
Longs house '06/full length 375H&H and the Ultra's.
The Roy requires the long and you can open an '06's boltface,or employ anything that's H&H derived,to getcha there.
The Ultra magbox/follower/rails will add difficulty/expense.
A 264Win,7Remmie,7Wby,300Winny,300Wby,338Winny,375 is but a barrel swap from being a 257Wby...................

And that answers that.
I'd only add that DBM must stay DBM. BDL and ADL you can swap, one for the other, as long as you're building.

Rickbin Does McMillan make custom stocks for the DBM you mentioned? I currently have a model 700 in .300 Weatherby with the detachable magazine that I plan on rebarreling and would like something better than the inj. molded plastic of remmy's

Big Stick, big thanks!! That is exactly what I was looking for, I may print that out and stick it in my files to have for later reference. You just saved me countless hours on the internet to find what you summed up in 6 simple lines.
I'm looking to build a 243AI soon and I know you have a few, may PM you with my thoughts if you don't mind giving it a quick once over.

Rick, thanks for that too, I found that out a while ago and was very sad. I have a 300 winnie with DM, I didn't want the DM but really wanted a 300 one day and went shopping and that was the only 700 I could find that day.
I guess that's what you get for impulse buys, I am slightly more mature now, but that doesn't rule out impulses <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
Thanks again!

My pleasure.
As indicated, McM does inlet their Rem patterns for a detachable box magazine (DBM).
That Stick knows a thing or two.

Stick...Stick who...does he post on this site?
Ha...Yes, as the old saying goes, I'm sure he has forgotten more than I'll ever know.
Amongst my group of friends and coworkers I'm known as a pretty knowledgable guy on firearms and such..... I don't even deserve to post on the same threads as some of the knowledgable members of the 'fire. It's an honor to be here.

logstove,
What model stock is that and what color combination if you don't mind telling? That's pretty close to what I am looking for and it looks great! You guys are a tremendous help! I've just started researching custom builds and have learned tons from all of you! Thanks from a newbie!

The 7 is a short action,as is the 600-series.
Their mag confines are precisely the same as a 700 short's and they'll house like chamberings, for that reason......................

So...If using a 270 or 06 action for converting to 257 roy, can I use the standard mag box and follower or do I need ones from a 7mm mag, 300 winnie, etc?

jasonkjasonk-- The HS Precision DBM trumps the factory DBM in all regards-- it ain't cheap, but you don't have to apologize for buying good gear. It will replace your factory DBM and you'll never look back...
