At least, "down here", the "fights", are of a good nature, for the most part. Folks do get passionate about food though.

Not chili, but that is a fine looking chicken soup.

Call it what you like, I'd call it supper.

LOL, good one.

Bender, looks good to me, call it what you want.

One could reasonably make the claim that chili is just a bastardization of adovada

Whether it's "authentic" adovada, chili or whatever, it's all good if you like it.

I think I need to make up a batch when I get home.

Every time I see something somebody here has cooked in a nice cast iron Dutch Oven it makes me feel funny, to put it in Garth's words. grin

Don't know if I would call it chili, but my Dad would. It looks good and putting a little sugar in the cornbread is the right thing to do.

I could say that Mile, but it would not be true!

Hot with butter, it's tasty!

I'd bet a lot of money that originally, down in Old Mejico, chili was made from cabras y puercos, (goats and pigs) far more than stringy carne de toro. grin

Back in the distant old days, what we know as "burritos," were made of goat meat or pork with beans and spices, wrapped in a large flour or corn tortilla. They were meant to be carried in a pouch by the vaqueros and eaten on horseback while they tended the cows.

Vaqueros abhorred walking anywhere. wink

Blasphemy.............. of the meanest kind.

"Chili ain't got no" tomatoes! or beans.

The chicken I could live with, as it is "meat" ............................of a sort

However, if I was invited, I'd eat it.

Specially if it were free!

Glad up picked up on my reference to your, uh, "chili", Mike grin grin

Perhaps you and the other culinary philistines on here who think phaseolus vulgaris are acceptable in chili should track down John Thorne's definitive essay "Just Another Bowl of Texas Red". By the way, in a later portion of this dissertation he mentions tomatoes are also considered impurities.

A quote from Thorne's writing - "If you are served chili containing beans, show forbearance and quietly slip them under the table..."

Cheers, Joe

Darby,

I'm thinking that Joe Thorne guy is a smart man.
By inference, you too!

Geno

PS, I'll have to keep my eye out for that essay.

There is no need for that kind of talk. There are children present and it might give us them the wrong idea!
