Hopefully the Henry blued single shot rifles will be hitting stores soon. I see they've updated their website with more information about them, specifically twist rates which were always somewhat of a mystery not only to potential buyers but also to those folks at Henry who answered emails. They got it right on the .44 Mag but seemed to have wimped out a bit on the .223, although they aren't too bad.

.44 is 1:20.
.223/5.56 NATO is 1:9.
.243 is 1:10 (huh?)
.308 is 1:10
.45/70 is 1:20 - don't know much about 45/70's so don't know if that's good or not.

No surprises there. The 1-20 for a .44 is encouraging. 1-9 is pretty common now for sporting .223s, if not ARs. A 1-10 .243 will be fine for ordinary hunting bullets up to 100gr, which is why it's also been the standard twist from the getgo. Something tells me (1) that the Henry folks are not likely to be on top of current loony trends, and (2) that most buyers of break-action .243s ain't looking to sling A-maxes and ELDs, more likely Fed blue box and Core-Lokts from Walmart. Of course it wouldn't have cost any more to twist them a bit tighter, but they've got plenty of company in the marketplace on that score.

My main concerns are over the quality and the trigger.

Trigger on their long ranger isn't bad in my opinion.

But the single shot should have come in 30-30.

What's the projected price point?

And once again, not "interesting" calibers for us loonies, just the normal few.

Oh well, the .357 might be interesting for a woods walker.

In a few weeks it'll still be May. Willing to wait in hopes they do it right.

I'm thinking a re-bored .223 might make a nice .25/35.

I keep checking gunbroker since new offerings usually show up there right away but so far nothing. Been searching for "Henry single" and it lists a ton of Rugers(?).

So they aren't here then. Did anybody who was interested in one join Tony's FB Q&A session the other night? That would have been the perfect place to ask.

It was announced through their emails and several news letters - The NRA and others.

I just listened to part of his FB presentation.

Steel receivers are shipping next month. Brass ones around Aug. Yes, there will be a 30-30.

Now it's supposed to be early August, which by my calendar, is about gone.

Beginning to sound like vaporware. Either they want to make sure they're really ready, or there's a problem that they can't get a handle on. I was ready to buy one right out of the gate, but not now. Think Anthony ought to offer an explanation if he wants us to pony up for a pig in a poke.

I've been looking on gunbroker the last few days as well but so far nada.

I do see that some on-line dealers are showing them for sale but "out of stock". Grabagun is listing them at $365.70, as mentioned above Cabela's has them listed for $369.99 so at least that gives an idea of what the street prices should be.

Ready to check the quality. I have this thing for break action guns. H&R just doesn't cut it. Too crude....Merkel and Blaser, too costly....

Just filled out a testy contact form on the Henry site. Apparently Anthony is on vacation, or ducking irate customers. I was ready to jump on one of these right off, but given the company's history of quality "issues", I'm gonna move on and let the other boys take the arrows in the back.

Got a response, but as expected no explanation as to why they're late, or why none have been sent out for review. I would think that if the design was finalized, they'd have some out there with gunwriters to prime the pump a bit.

Nice lady said they're being released later than expected (REALLY?), and that they hope to increase production to meet demand (at this point, ONE would be an increase).

Hate to be snarky, but come on Anthony.

Pappy348.
Why in the hell would you even be interested in a Henry product at all if you feel they have quality "issues"? Why not stck to your Jap Brownings and let others support new American made products? You don't seem to have the stomach for it anymore...

Did you miss the 1980s? Geezus ..Ruger and Browning both were sometimes YEARS behind actually getting new models on shelves.

Honestly, Anthony I . deserves a vacation as much as anyone and frankly he owes you NOTHING because you have are not out one thin dime on this.

Apparently you and some others here just want to bitch...

Well, they'd better get crackin' then. I've got a powerful urge for another one of those finely-crafted Miroku 1885s.

Tomorrow is officially mid-September. Just sayin'.

However, I see four single shot shotguns for sale on gunbroker, all .410's. Search for "henry h015". Asking price is $340-$360 and the wood looks better than 90% of the Ruger #1's being made. A ray of hope...

Added: the MSRP for the shotguns and rifles is the same - $427 - so I'm guessing this is a good indicator of the street price for the rifles whenever they show up.

I saw one at the pre-opening preview at the new Cabelas in El Paso yesterday, so there are probably a few floating around.

Sounds ok to me, wood & price wise. And, I can wait. Might try a 30/30 if and when. Might not. New models can have a few glitches too. Those faint of heart buyers may want to give it a year.

The delay has cost them at least one sale this year, to me. I can only assume there's a design issue or some other snag that doesn't bode well for early purchasers, especially since the email I sent about it got the usual gobbledygook response, not an explanation.

I have an urge for another single shot. I really like the Jap 1885s, but I also have a thing for rifles that come apart in the middle. I would like to fondle the Henry before buying something else that I really don't need.

They are all listed as "Backorderable". A couple of online dealers, I think Grab-a-gun may be the other one, have shown them on their web sites for a few months now but listed as "Out of stock".

I really would like to see one because I think they will be well made rifles and am sorry they are having such problems getting them to production, but they have sort of shot themselves in the foot with "shipping in May", "shipping in August", "shipping in mid-September"...

As per Patrick at Henry, the single shot rifles started shipping last week,
he did not say which calibers
