AD62xx makes me think, after doing a little googling, that mine should be a 1968 Manufacture.
If you decide not to keep that '68 model, I'd like to know about it first. I have a couple marlins from 68 (same year as me). I'll let you know first, friend.

Sorry for the late reply, Doc. I have piddled with it a bit. I don't have the scope I want for it yet, but I went ahead and mounted a Leupold VXII 3x9 just for testing purposes. I shot a few 150 grain Sierra FP's and a few 160 grain Hornady FTX's. I want to mess with the 170 grain Hornady FP as well. As it is, I'd be happy to shoot a whitetail in the armpit with a 150 grain SIerra, but as far as shooting 3 or 5 round groups, I haven't been able to squeak them together yet.
Also, still bearing in mind your advice about relieving the metal forend cap. If this one touches the barrel, it is only slightly, but there is a possibility that it is touching.
